I don't know yet Bill, I joined two WY chicken groups and everyone says they are fine------ Finally someone said they keep them inside below 0*. Idk, my kids school let them out for recess down to 0*. I haven't had chickens before so I'm feeling my way through. I'll likely err on the side of caution, and I have a heated waterer.

We get it yooper , you dislike anything called an EV and of course the kicker is you have never owned one . Did you even read the article ? Good grief , it’s an over the air software update that won’t be available until next month and effects less than 50,000 cars . Guess I should come clean and say my Volt had a “ major recall” Lol . Small shock that is used for the hatchback door had to be replaced and took all of 5 minutes to do . What a lemon .

But they don't want us mining for them was the point I think. Like "we need wind and solar energy!" But not in my back yard type thinking.

Glad you got it as much as I did wishlist.

I do not dislike anything called EV (where did you ever come up with that notion?) and you are right, I did tell you that I have never owned one. So? This is the 2nd recall in as many years for that specific EV which is why these power source has yet to be perfected.

When you hear people start beating the drum that this is the best thing since sliced bread, a warning flag should be hoisted. When you have the compliance of buying/owning an EV forced upon a nation, something is drastically wrong.

I get the idea that you have never served in the military (if so, thank you) but the USA is a free country and many can see that our freedoms are being slowly and deliberately chiseled away. Serving the nation instills a deep pride and sense of value of just what prices are paid for freedom. It does not give the nation the right to remove your freedom of choice. I chose not to buy a elec vehicle years ago (hybrid) due to the fact that replacing batteries are so danged expensive. Buying a used vehicle and then spending 50% more to get it "fixed" just isn't feasible in this case.

Again, I'll present the question. If EV's are so damm great, why doesn't the government use them? Specifically, the administration that is pushing so hard for everyone to comply.

You have a good day sir

Wow, a lot to unpack here.

First, yooperdave , about the "personal attack" that shut down the other thread, you have nothing to worry about, it was not meant as a personal attack, I will however reserve the right to tell anyone whom I think is repeatedly insinuating that I am less than honest to FO and the mods can do as they please.

As Wishlist already said, the issue behind this recall for the Mach-E will be easily fixed by a software update that will happen IN MY DRIVEWAY WHILE I'M SLEEPING, try that with an ICE vehicle.

As for the forcing of compliance and eroding of personal freedoms, IMO that is a political discussion and I'm not going to get into it as political discussions are not allowed here and fraught with personal opinion and you know what they say about opinions.

Speaking of opinions...same goes for the styling of the Mach-E. I do know that Mrs DG gets a lot of attention driving the car. Both of our EVs are in my opinion pretty impressive, maybe if you actually tried one you'd be impressed.

As for Government agencies adopting EV use, I think they are trying but EV sales are so hot right now it is hard to get your hands on one. Many dealerships are charging 10-15K over MSRP and people are still buying them! I could, if I wanted to, flip both of our EVs and make $10-15K on EACH of them. Now, those numbers are a bit soft and I know things can change quickly so don't go crazy with them. And along those lines, my local Ford dealer called me yesterday and said he just got in a F150 Lightning in Lariat trim. It's a "mannequin" truck. A full production truck that the dealership is supposed to use to let the public get a chance to see and try, but the dealership is not allowed to sell the truck until it has been in service for 6 months or 5K miles whichever comes first. It is still sold as a "new" vehicle with full warranty and available for any tax credits, it's also $81,544 PLUS TAX, PLUS TITLE, PLUS a $400 doc fee. It's kind of silly in this case because Lightnings are so hot that the 2022 reservations were sold out some time ago, so as I understand it you can't even order one if you wanted to and the likely hood of getting ahold of one in 2023 is not good. So I took it for a test drive yesterday and it is incredibly impressive, so much so that I put a refundable $500 deposit on it and am first in line to buy it at MSRP when the dealership is able to sell it. 0-60 in 4.5 seconds in a 6000lb truck will impress just about anyone I'd think. Not sure how I feel about buying an 81K truck that has been test driven by the general public for 6 months, but I figured putting the deposit on it couldn't hurt and I can always back out of the deal if I want but, if in 6 months I can still flip one of our current EVs for 10-15K I'm going to be severely tempted.

I'm replying to the remarks Wishlist made.

It sure sounds like a serious recall if you can't recharge your EV for a month. Over the air update for the fix? Then just go ahead and do it! Add to this the chance of "rolling blackouts" .......

Sounds like ya better grab that truck while you can. :handshake:

If a ICE vehicle needed a software update, couldn't that be done "IN MY DRIVEWAY WHILE I'M SLEEPING" also? (Happens to our jeep according to the dealership.)

It surprises me why you haven't asked yourself just why the president doesn't adopt the use of EV?

    "C'mon man!"

When you tell someone to "GFY", yeah....that's a personal attack. So, I guess you kinda of sorta almost came close and apologized for that?:D

I am not getting into EV versus ICE discussion because it is far too complicated. New technologies and all. Here is my question..
Why if helping environment is goal, has the USA not Followed Australia, By adding a 40 pound propane tank to the trunk of a vehicle. And a switch that allows the vehicle to run on both gasoline and propane. When I was in Australia in 1995, the conversion kit to add this was less than AU$2000!

Yes the vehicle had lower miles per gallon on propane, but the emissions were significantly less. And if you had to go long distance the only refueling centers for propane We’re in the cities. So if you had to go on a long trip you flip the switch and pay the higher price for gasoline.

My only answer to this is that the government would lose their tax revenue because people would fill up in garages.

I think, unfortunately, it all boils down to 1/2 our country believing anything fossil fuel is the devils elixir no matter how clean it may be at the tail pipe. Propane lift trucks safety run inside buildings with workers present. I think it would be a nice clean alternative but, up goes the cost of heating big time if that were to occur. Same with anything that uses corn has drastically went up, before this purposely created inflation, due to much of the corn being used to make garbage fuels that wreak havock on many engines / fuel systems still in use.

With your reasoning yooper Henry Ford would have been beaten and hung and we would still be using horse and buggies . Times change along with technology. Good grief man , think about it.

For whatever unknown reason you want to question if I served in the military ? I have no clue where you ever come up with that when the topic that YOU started is about EV’s . I will say this , although it’s none of your damm business , as I type this there’s a flag in a case that was on my grandfathers casket who died in WW2 on D-Day on the end table .

As Dave has said , I’m not gonna take your bait and get in a political discussion . It’s not allowed here and it should be enforced but unfortunately it seems it’s more of a “one way street “ on FHC . I was sternly warned some time ago about it and have no issue following those rules . Imo tho ,seeing mods “ like “ political post if they agree with the post is really being a hypocrite.

I saw a YouTube review of the electric f150 in vinyl "work clothes. He said it was just under $40k. Impressive acceleration. I don't remember the model year and watched it out of curiosity.
The would be engine compartment was a front trunk.
I've all but withdrawn from participating in this economy, just too whacked out right now and a (brand) new vehicle is out of the question. I got that silliness out of my system years ago and believe that we're in for 3-4 years of a very miserable economy. That's when you buy, most everyone else is broke and selling!

the F150 Lightning Pro model work truck is available to contractors and fleet sales only. I would buy several at 40K if I could and resell them, it is a fantastic deal IF you can find one. Ford has come out with a “no sale” clause for the 2022 Lightning. You can’t resell it for a year, although I hear that it is voluntary for the dealer to include it, but future allocations of trucks may hinge on whether the dealers participate or not.

The “frunk” you could fit a couple small children in there!

    Yup.
I think most people that have an issue with EV's are like me...I have no issue with an EV in and of itself...its the fact that when you factor in the mining and misc. nastiness that goes into making the batteries (not to mention what do to with spent ones!) but then add to that the fact that in many/most places the electric grid can't even handle a hot day (increased AC usage) let alone everyone plugging their EVs in too. Heck, we had a nasty wind storm come through the area the other night and take down a bunch of trees and poles....huge area is without power until the weekend the power company says...hope your EV isn't dead!
Will we get things figured out over time, maybe...but in the meantime, don't force this steaming pile of horsecrap down my throat! I just don't buy that everything factored in, that EV's are "saving the planet" the way many tout...especially when much of the power that charges those batteries is still made by FF's!
When the technology is mature, and the kinks worked out, the free market will prevail...and if EV's are so great, that will usher out the age of the ICE powered autos, until then, stop forcing it!!

We had a new 'Mustang' pass us on the e-way the other day and my wife asked me what it was and when I told her, her comment was barf.

Certainly not one of Fords 'better ideas'.

    Eggshooterist nailed it.

Seems nothing can be accomplished in this country without a protest against it.
