I am being flippant. A tub and washboard will do laundry. Any kind of post/pole you can wrap clothes around and twist them will get water out of them.

That is a good point to bring up is waste disposal, human, animal, or kitchen. If you have an outhouse the minimum distance to have it from water source or shelter depending on soil type should be 75 feet and down hill and down wind. The same goes for animal waste, keep it away and down stream. Keep open wells covered, a farm near where I grew up had to dig a new well after a cow wandered and fell in the well. They didn't find it until they noticed an off taste in the water, barf! Food waste needs to be properly dealt with too so as to not draw animals ranging anywhere from bugs and rodents and all the way up to bears. Also plant matter can be composted but not fats and proteins which putrify and stink.

There are several plans for off grid laundry machines, including a plunger in a 5G bucket, a 55G drum rotated on its side, and others.
Washboards dont tend to be good on wrists iirc.

A good compost pile, modeled after the humanure concept, will take any biomass except wood and soil. Mice, cats, rabits, chickens, meat and egg shells. There are videos of, on YT. Composting is a heat based process, not an organism/worm type process.

I understand a broom handle and an iron will seal mylar bags. If you do anything powdery (flour) make sure none gets trapped where you will seal. I think mice have chewed mylar, so putting those in totes or something hard might be a good idea.

I just rediscovered my liking for those Ball plastic lids, for canning jars.
We don't eat a lot of rice/oats/flax seed meal/split peas/lentils/quinoa, so keeping those in original containers allows pests and moisture and weird flavors in.

So into various sizes of canning jars they go. So as to not use canning lids, those plastic sealed ones from Ball are the best. Mayo lids DON'T seal without some sorta gasket. And the Ball ones have regular and wide mouth.

Also, last week, wally world had canning lids (domes) for the first time I've seen since before covid. They've gone up in price, but a few boxes came with me. Something to hoard is those. If one puts up 20qts of meat, fruit preserves, and some dry canning, dry storage (above), going through 40+ lids a year is easy.

My daughter is a the end of the Saco where it meets the Atlantic. She curses it every single day as it’s a massive wind tunnel.

We've been stocking up on lids. Try the local farmers markets and Mennonite bulk/outlet stores. We've had good luck finding lids at those places.

Yes lol. Not a bad thing to have on hand but I remember certain people selling it for a lot more than what you could buy it at if you went to the local shop.

Well thankfully this turned out to be a big nothing burger from what I've seen. Diesel in my area actually dropped .20 cents while regular gas jumped around .40/.50 since I posted this.

It's now $5/gal for reg gas in my part of NJ. Diesel is $6. It cost me $50 to fill up my two 5 gal tanks yesterday.

I have another SS cat for my Fireview 201 ordered from WS on the way. My current cat only has 1 season on it but I wanted to make sure I had something 4-5 years down the road without worrying if it's available or not.

HHO has dropped back down to just under $5 here.
Diesel has dropped to around $5.80/5.90.
A continuing downward trend would be nice but it has been jumping up and down for the last couple of months, with a general trend up.
