Prepare to be extra jealous.... A P/C router kit and his old 'Tek 211 scope found its way into the truck as well ;) bwahhahahahaha

    unnamed.jpg

As we were loading stuff I was feeling a bit guilty but he told me not to be.. Hes been collecting tools since the 60s, is at the point he has more than he will ever need and would rather take it easier working in the millwork dept at the box than out doing jobs (I wasnt kidding, he really does have 2 chop saws, 3 table saws, 2 thickness planers, i dont know how many routers, etc.... ) and decided that since Im the only one of the kids would would actually use any of it he'd rather start giving some to me now; than have it get all split up later in the will and the kids fight over it.

(Also I think my stepmom just wants a lot of it out of the house and to get her garage back now that hes not doing the business fulltime ;) )

Through all this I'm really getting an appreciation for old tools. He still has the very first shop tools he ever bought, Craftsman radial arm and table saw from'62? and they still run good as new and feel a lot better built than the modern plastic stuff. He was considering selling those and I pleaded with him to keep them (for himself, not me).

One more batch.... And I'll be done. Total damage: 7 pints of Sauce, 18 pints of salsa, 10 pints of Cowboy Delight...

Garden is being pulled tomorrow.... Except for the Okra

It's nice to know the torch has been passed and another generation will enjoy the tools. Whats better is the tools you got from the 60's are probably some of the best built tools compared to todays 'throw away' type tools.
I'm jealous in the fact that you had a dad that could do this for you, mine was in business, not the blue collar type. It's a bittersweet feeling when these days come, someday you will do the same for your boy.

Some prep work today and canning tomorrow. The green tomatoes are left with salt over them overnight. So this is a two day affair or if you get up early get them sliced and salted you can cook them layered with onions and hot peppers (and sweet if you prefer), the pickle is equal parts white and brown sugar in brown apple cider vinegar in the late evening. Then you can do the canning the same day late at night. We have done this when it has been hot out. We fill a 12 quart pot to the top with tomatoes, then 3 pounds onions, along with a 1.5 pounds hot peppers, when cooked in the larger pot one gets about 16 pints.

The last year we got really hit bad by blight and it was hot and steamy we did the condensed version. It made for a long day.

After we get this batch done we will see what is left and decide if we go for some ripe 'maters or do a garden relish.

In 2008 we had a pile of both green and ripe 'maters the boss left for work one morning and when she came home the kitchen table was covered with filled jars. Haven't had a really good year for ripe tomatoes since. I'm going to splurge on some full spectrum lights and set the boss up with a place to start her own plants.

It is supposed to get up to 88 on Wednesday (yesterday it was supposed to get to 89). It was in the 40's earlier this morning again.

Busy day again for you, no rest! Starting your own plants is the only way not to haul home some damm disease. I do get some clean plants from local growers , but it can be a undone if you haul home plants that can carry the diseases. Petunias are known for that. So I also get those from a local grower. Potting soil I buy the year before and let it over winter outside so it freezes solid. Those southern bugs and germs don't have much survival in theses harsh winter conditions. Best tomato crops I've seen this year are the ones grown under cover. Keeps most of the rain and drift off them. We just haven't had the weather for really good tomatoes.

Picking black berries this morning on the vacant lot below our property and I was on my knees picking the bottom berries. I heard a snort and a thump. I turned to where I heard the thump to see a good sized Doe had just jumped over me and in full flight between the wall and the berry bushes!
Sorry no picture of the Doe but it did happen!

I got this trailer a few years ago and I never liked how the body set on the frame so I rebuilt it today.

Cool Jack. How about a "tailgate" on that baby to haul more wood and balance her out? Nice size lil trailer.

I got my stacks covered today no pics its to embarrassing:emb: Im using tarps and tin and I really want to get a more permanent type of cover something that looks better covers the top of the stacks and leaves the sides open for air flow. There might be a carport in my future or a pole barn who knows time will tell.

Thank you Stinny, it's a nice size for the woods. Too heavy for my Foreman though. It probably could use a tailgate!

They say money doesn't buy happiness, but I'm always happy when I'm using my tractor. I am pretty simple.
