I wondering if anyone would know how to keep rodents and other animals out of your wood pile. I don’t want to use poison because of my dog and kids. If anyone has any info it would be much appreciated thank you

Traps where neither the dog or kids can get to them. Hopefully, the kids are old enough to understand that traps are dangerous? Don't bother with live traps.

5 gallon buckets with about 8 inches of water in it and bait it with black sun flower seeds and a ramp up to the lip of the bucket. Good way to get rid of chipmunks and mice.

Mothballs, moth flakes. Be advised the wood may absord the smell.
Adopting an outdoor cat or two is a better way.

I find rodent nests and piles of acorns when I open up a new stack. I just brush the stuff aside and move the wood.

My stacks are away from the house. I don't see them as a problem.

With that said, I've noticed chipmunks on the deck and near other house areas. Too close. The body count is up to 7 this week. Trap-n-dispose.

The bucket trap will work for mice...a friend had a garage trash barrel with bird chow in it. In the bottom of the mostly empty barrel was a very full and presumably dehydrated but still alive mouse. Might be adaptable for outdoor use.
Moles I have zero ideas for, except get rid of grubs.

Moles not a problem. Mice could be but I don't worry about them. Wood is not stacked close to the house. Still, I do not find many nests. I suspect here the fox and coyotes get most of them plus there always seem to be cats running around the country.

You could probably use some poison if you bury it inside the piles.
