Browsing FBM last night for BL scores near me. None to be had, but found one for free wood next town over and it turned out to be mulberry. Even better! I was working not far from there so met this morning. Homeowner had felled them last week. Easy back up and cut. IMG_1208.JPG IMG_1210.JPG IMG_1212.JPG I got all the mulberry today. Couldve taken more of the other wood, but needed room in the truck for work. IMG_1217.JPG IMG_1216.JPG Split the load later along with the other mulberry from last Friday. IMG_1219.JPG IMG_1220.JPG Saved three 4' logs for milling. Even at that heavy SOB's to load. (cedar log was dump find today too)

Great BTU’s and ever better for grilling and smoking!

I have a big mulberry in my back yard, every “tree person” I know says, “mulberry that’s just a big weed” not sure way they call it a weed, it’s actually a pretty nice tree.

They do grow like weeds around here, and they love fencerows, but they certainly do make for great firewood.

I consider myself more of a vulture! :vulture:

Yep, get tired now and then, but a good wood score perks me up!

The few i see around here grow like weeds. Along property lines and left unchecked for years. This one looks like it did just that. Although it was mostly straight which is unusual.

I'm a mulberry fan too. I found a few splits while moving wood the last couple days and set it aside. I've never cooked with it but I'm going to try. We get an almost incense-like aroma when we burn it in the basement. Not sure I'd love that flavor so I'll just do burgers or something cheap the first time.

Brad, what do you do with 4' length logs milled?

What does 'goldilocks' wood mean? Short, easy to handle?

Such awesome wood for you, again!

Good luck splitting it. I guess cause maybe my mulberry is always curvy, but its a PITA

None of the mulberry I’ve had was difficult to split, at all.

Some of what I set aside:

Goldilocks wood was a term used by jrider describing rounds that are not too big or not too small for processing. If memory serves me correct his diameters are 12-16" diameter.

buzz-saw lives a couple miles from me and has a backyard mill. If i can get the log to his house it can be milled. 40" the shortest for boards. We will mill them to 7/8" thick. Mulberry is an excellent outdoor wood and ill more than likely make some outdoor furniture with it...sooner or later. Probably later! :emb:
I got the wood cut to those lengths. Id make the logs longer for milling.

In my limited experience with it both hand and hydro splitting it has been very easy. Of course knotty gnarlies another story.

Yes, the smaller ones...one clump of three. Another single cherry tree in different area of yard i wont. Bringing bigger saw to slice the mulberry stump too. Couldve with the 261 but a longer bar on bigger saw will make a nice slice.

Assembled another rack and stacked all the splits. Not quite a half cord between the two scores unless i CSS the mill logs then it would fill up. Some skinnies to buck will be added to the stack
