My mailman recently told me he had about 2 cords of ash from trees recently felled in his yard. He’s right around the corner so I’m thinking jackpot. Got there and indeed some ash, but majority was black gum (the horror!). He told me to take whatever and leave whatever. Split on site and got about 1/4 cords of ash. It was already in rounds about 22-23 inches long which is great bc my Jotul insert takes up to 24”. I was happy to get the truckload I did and some good conversation with the mailman after the work was done. The ash is the partial row in the front. Sorry for the duplicate pics.
Nice grab and relatively close... Score! Interesting wood racks, nicely made... Must have some relatively flat ground in that area.
Thanks! I got the rack instructions from Firewood for Life on YouTube. The ground slopes toward the back of the yard. I shimmed it up so that the racks themselves are more even.
Black gum....Yuck! At least you were given the green light to take what you wanted. Some other poor unsuspecting soul will think he's done well with free wood until he goes to split it.
