It does smell . Hoping to get back at it after lunch today. Precip fell before light and another round of sprinkles are expected at lunch time. Nothing major.

I did end up filling that second spot with 80/20 chestnut oak and the front row was BL. All together it was just a scosch under 3.5 cords.

3 rows CO, right most BL.
Couple weeks ago I got some more loads out of the honey hole.

And today, I got a trailer full and 1/2 a truck bed for my parents. All small stuff.

Cut a stump and bucked some more logs as well. The Mingo Marker is sweet. Cutting 16” for them and 21 for me. Just a quick change of wheel, very convenient.

Made a vid. This was using that new WCS depth plate.

Ive only scored a little of it and id say its the easiest of all oaks to split...by hand that is.

I would agree with that Brad but I have never processed Pin Oak. The wedge only needs to go in about 2 or 3 inches and it’s apart. The only negative is what Scotty pointed out, everything in the white oak family leaves a huge mess of bark.

Not missing much with pin oak. Small knots usually in the trunk can make splitting more annoying. Stacking too. Plus it can smell like manure. The only CO ive processed was fresh cut green and the bark stayed tight. Seeing your pics of the dead it does make a lot of mess. The same with BL rounds that sit for too long and bark loosens. Wheelbarrows full of bark. No way to hack off bark at the score Jason?

I take off as much as I can with a gloved hand. I could easily use a hatchet and remove it all but I think it would be too time-consuming. I end up putting it all on a burn pile so it’s not like it’s a big hassle.

Getting caught up again on your thread...wow, brother, you sure have been busy. Those trees and stacks look great. Nice job, all around...:tip:...
Glad your son has been able to help and spend time with you learning.

Thanks Jeff. And yes, I was glad he agreed to go cut with me a little bit. He has been dropping some trees for a friend and I wanted to make sure his basics were solid. I think at that age you don’t realize how dangerous it can be.

Yeah it had weird divides in the wood id go to split one piece and get like three very satisfying if all wood was like that id say a splitter is a waste of money and space
