They can probably jump over it and I’ve wondered if they contribute to collapses. There’s only been one(so far)partial collapse of this wall.

Looks more like the great wall than a fence. Impressive amount of splits there.

Pretty amazing how high they can jump from a standing stop on such skinny legs.

A little well placed lead keeps them from jumping. They are unwelcome here especially after killing my fruit trees. They are thicker than thieves around here. They cause hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage to crops, gardens & fruit trees around here. They are just giant rodents

I wish we had that problem, it's a struggle to see one out hunting. Have to many wolf's around now

Deer won't jump that unless there is food to get and that is the only way to get to the food. Otherwise jump to flee a predator.

btw, for those who fence in gardens. We have gardens fenced with 5' fence and then on top of each fence post we tie plastic grocery bags. Never had a deer jump so long as the bags were there. Of course, they have to be replaced annually but getting a supply of those bags does not seem to be a problem.

I’ve never heard that trick—interesting. Especially since 5ft is nothing to them. I have heard that they don’t like to jump if they can’t tell where the top of the fence is. So anything distracting at the top will deter them.

What? Not at all. It's an excellent choice!

You don't want to kill or injure the deer, just motivate them.

Their hunger is probably the only motivation they surrender to.

I've tried the plastic bags. Worked for maybe a couple weeks then they must have got used to them. I've had to get taller t-posts.

There's a funny story out there about roping a deer. If anyone wants a good laugh just google "roping a deer"

I think those plastic bags are supposed to be filled with venison and in the freezer for best results. :smoke:

I still cry reading it 15 years after the first time I read it, beautifully written.
