Does anyone tap maples that far south? I would imagine it's just hobbiests since the freeze/thaw cycle is what makes sap run up here.

 

Not that I’m aware of. We are close to their Southern climate limit.

 

Cut them off and keep them!! Often worth the most!

 

It produced 2 loads, but I only remembered one pic.

I didn't know they grew this far south.

 

Looking at the USDA plant hardiness zone map, a sugar maple may survive in NW Georgia.

X2. The knots and gnarly parts are the densest. PITA to process and usually ill noodle them for the nicest "splits"

I was thinking turning them for bowls and pens etc butler maple is $$$

Nice that its off the ground to buck. I had one that size few years back the tree guys dropped right in the ground. Couldnt roll it and major PITA to cut up. Some great wood though. How often do you score maple Chud?

Big Sugar Maple is a first. Red Maples usually abundant during spring and summer storms.
It helps to have the ability to think several moves ahead when doing tree work ie laying the log across limbs. It also minimizes huge holes in the turf. Being a fw hoarder helps too
