It seems I’ve had seven or eight “last fires” this season. Been a very dry winter, followed by very dry early spring. That is until a few days ago. We’ve gotten significant rain for this area, and it’s quite chilly out. Came home from work and figured what the heck, better than hearing the furnace run.

I moved the wood rack out of the garage over the weekend...probably be a few fires yet, but I can just carry wood in for that.

I’ve got a closet under the outside stairwell to the basement that holds about 1/3 cord or so. There’s a few fires worth left, but this is the latest I’ve burned (inside). I’m ready to shift to the patio fire pit.

Never bet on when the last fire of the season will be. Sometimes that happens in June.

I could have but simply refuse in July. When I was a Yooper we once lost our garden from freeze in July...

Been like that here too! My most recent last fire of the year hasn’t gone out for 4 days now.
And Monday I sold a little bit of wood for $25 to a family across town that was out and figured they were done burning for the year.

I thought I was on my last one too, 3 weeks or so ago. Have had a fire all weekend. Wife reminded me we burned on memorial day last year. I am ready for the last fire of the season though.

Anytime it's cool, cloudy, and drizzly, we'll light the stove to chase away any dampness or raw feeling in the air.

i would have started a fire this morning but there is a deer laying just about 15' from the house. If I go out to get wood off the porch it will no doubt make her nervous because so close so I'll make do.

Mama. Then I just came back from moving some wood. Scared a newborn that was alone. Then going to the wood pile a doe and last year's fawn came by to say hello.
