Supply shortages

Can you see a pattern of endless lies and playing the blame game and the origin of it's source?

 

Just talked to our buyer this morning and he said wheat is at $14. It was half that a year ago. Talked to a friend that is trucking and he can't do a full fill on his truck without it kicking out because the pump won't allow it to roll past $999.99. Ridiculous that it costs over a grand to fill his truck, then he said he is in Texas oil country and he doesn't see wells pumping as he is paying that. Top that off with in the next week and a half a vote to give the World Health Organization basically constitutional pandemic power in the US and huge change is coming soon I'm afraid.

 

there's No shortages, its all about messing with the economy. PERIOD

 

I agree, but think it goes further than that even

 

Once things fall far enough into disarray, we'll be begging for order. They'll be happy to give it to us too.

 

Have to disagree with this . I’ll give you an example of a shortage that has directly impacted us maple syrup producers and packagers and the reason why . It’s a small example of one thing but my point is shortages are there .

Plastic maple jugs have become very hard to come by . With covid the plastic jug companies basically stopped making maple jugs and concentrated on plastic jugs for hand sanitizers etc….. I’m sure you’ve noticed many places where you now see the little pump bottles where before you never seen them and all other sorts of plastic jugs . It wasn’t that long ago when you couldn’t buy liquid soap if you remember . People hoarded it among other items .
Next issue a year or so ago was a major fire at one of the plastic jug plants in Canada and you had a perfect storm.
All the inventory was used up and some orders
are now 8-12 month out . It is what it is , nothing more .

 

So what are we collectively seeing coming into shortage?
Some things will just become expensive (bar oil) some stuff rare or impossible to find.
I havent experienced it yet, are folks here seeing things not available (other than beer)?

Sams club is having a sale on Folgers. $2 off a big container. I think I have about 6 containers of it.

 

Freedom and bodily autonomy are about to become nonexistent I'm afraid.

 

My family worked there for 3 Generations. It's one of my staples for parties. I used to drink the Lord Chesterfield as an underage consumer because I knew none of my friends would drink it on me if I left it in the fridge lol.

My wife did the grocery shopping during the day today. She said a lot of the shelves were barren of bottled juice and my kids’ favorite, capri sun. A lot of times I see simple snacks like granola bars are gone. Chicken has also been very hit or miss. Depending on how the bird flu plays out, that could become more miss than hit in the coming months.

 

well I agree, but, “we ain’t seen nothin yet” wait and see, trust me, I don’t wanna go there, GOD, HELP US ALL! And, I’m NOT kidding!

 

When, was the last time you saw a tv add about washing your hands? Think about it!

 

Exactly my point , we’ve had a pandemic that none of us has seen before . Tv ads from the local and state health departments about “ washing your hands “ among other best practices for your health and safety promotes more people buying soap bottles …….and as the threads topic of shortages that I personally have seen with the maple jugs . I do get it tho , these companies making the maple plastic jugs are lower on the totem pole for profits .

 

I'd bring jugs for syrup...grew up on grade c, hate plastic syrup from restaurants. Deff would bring jugs. Big ones.

So we just spent a WAD on groceries and supplies. Prices are waaay up.
Course, we got a few doubles on things we cannot run out of, like dog chow.
We shopped around, didnt see much in the way of shortages.

Aldi was plumb out of oatmeal, except for steel cut. S### tickets were low, but no limits. Wally world had the few things we wanted. The vitamin and supplement shoppe was very low on variety, and had only 1 and 2 of the things we did want.
TSC had 3 1G jugs of B&C oil, $11.99 ea. They don't have 3 jugs left now. (My pridefull self thinks its cute that they even sell that stuff in 1qt sizes).

Until I found TSC B&C oil 2 years ago (when it was $6-7/G) I'd been paying $9, then 10, then 11, for Ace brand for years. It was still better than $15 for name brand stuff. So $12 is tolerable.

There is one resturant supply place we didnt hit, that tomorrow.

Its good to have an extra of a few things though. A little hedge against the ever increasing costs.

think about it, anything that has to do with oil products , tires, plastic, way too many things to list here, it's going to be , or get in short supply. Its crazy, to say the least. I honestly feel for the people who have too really hustle to get jugs for syrup. And, with that, how's the expense of the jugs compared to a year ago, IF you can even get them? Or, better yet, how's the prices 2 yrs ago? ''Your right, it is what it is'' So, we'd better toughen up and make do with what we have, no more frill's and folly. It just don't look good for our future. We've been taken advantage of for years and years, promises, promises, promises, always going to change things for ''our own good''. Well, we are our own worst enemy. And, now we're going to pay the price. Now we'll see what the next couple of years bring, all those promises, all of a sudden have been forgotten, shelved. But, lets focus on the pandemic, make it sound a lot worse than it actually is, keep people guessing, then, they'll forget about what is going on with the rest of the world. Oh, and the ''good ole days'' forget that, its done, in the past, never, ever, to be replicated again. Ever!

But, hold on to those memories, cherish them with all your might, the vacations you took the honest fun you had, The really good times, Keep those memories alive no matter what. Don't let yourself be a slave, Keep your family and really good friends close, VERY CLOSE. Look around at other countries, other nations we could be a lot worse off. Raise your families with really good values, try helping others , just do it, not for the money, but, just trying to be a good neighbor. try to smile no matter the situation! Like the old saying,'' make lemon aid out of lemons''.

 

I’d say I’m a bit more optimistic for the future . Yes , things are in short supply but with time I believe it will turn around once this pandemic is behind us . With China still doing these lockdowns and with the current situation in Ukraine it certainly makes for unsettling times .
I think once those 2 situations are resolved things will get better . How long it takes is anyones guess tho.
