So I just finished up a 1.75 cord score, and was calling it quits on wood for a week or two, just to get through some training at work. Last summer the kiddo and I helped a friend cut some good sized trees down, did some bucking, and schooled him in splitting. The friend burned some this past winter, and continued splitting as he had time. A couple days ago he informed me that he is pulling up stakes and heading down south, in three weeks. And, all the Ash and Oak he had CSS was mine to take! So its on, every day after work dipping by his place for a load of wood, dropping it at our friends yard for stacking, running home to study and sleep. Keeping the trailer on the pin all the time now. Got 2 loads pulled out as of today, hopefully 1 a day for the next 8 days (till my work location or shift is likely to change). I reckon he's got just about 3 cord, all split to 2 and 3", mostly 16" long, aged 10 months. that tops off our revised 3 year plan, and puts us a solid couple cord into the 4th year. Feeling really blessed today. (Not to mention he'soffloading a couple saws he wont need, as well as a rather spendy snow thrower, for a very reasonable price). Pics of his stacks with one load pulled out yesterday. The back stack is 7 pallets long. Sca
The divine numbers: 20 cord on hand at our place, 2C CSS at a friends yard, puts us at 25 when done with this take. Oh yeah!
Makes it a lot easier when hoarding ready made firewood. Takes some of the fun out of it, but its still free firewood. You could always sell some Dave.
A good friend indeed, nice score. You might suggest your friend keep a small though. Even if he doesn't heat with wood, trees still fall down.
Brad, if someone drove by and wanted to buy, I dont think I'd say no. But taking time to deliver, at least for the moment, doesn't seem cost effective. For the right price though... Sca
He has 4 saws, some duplicates. He's getting rid of a royobi electric saw, and one gasser that Ill find out about today. He is keeping saws handy for the next house. Sca
Welp, update. No class today (saturday) so a buddy and I pulled 3 loads out. (Pics) will stack before/after church sunday. He doesn't drink. So when were up for last load, we hung out for 45 minutes. He and his kids were clearing the yard. He and I cleared a ton of junk off the lawn...wood chunks, wood crotches, bark etc. His kids are able, but not as strong as we. He was glad for the help. I had a chance to school his boy on the finer parts of splitting....kinda like you did on the BL score with us Brad. I was able to encourage and pump up his kids as they did boring yard work. And his yard looks better when selling has to happen. There are probably 3 loads left, and I'll put in a little clean up time as I go. He has a couple weeks left, and his wife and kid are only gonna do so much. Chainsaws and wood we hauled today. My friend pictured, has moved a ton of wood with me since we started hoarding in '19. Loyal friend. Sca
Sunday, my friend and I resisted the urge to grab another load from the score. We stacked, didn't forsake the assembling of the saints, and finished stacking. I weed wacked around the piles on my friends land, ticks are out with force. I'm stacking to 5' as real estate at my friends place is a wee bit limited. But it is less lawn for him to mow. There is room for 3 or 4 more pallets in this row. 3 or 4 loads left to grab, 1 after work today regardless or weather. Sca
The score is finished, and on to the rest of the wood layin' around. Friend and I split 3/4 cord yesterday. Stacked it. We accomplished 3 cord css for the homeowner/friend, for his next heating season. Note (and purpose for this post): Took buZZsaw BRAD idea and made a picakroon. My friend is kinda one handed, and loved this tool for pulling splits outta the truck bed. I keep odd bits of this and that handy, so an old maul handle and a carriage bolt did the trick. May mod it later as needed.
