These 2 racks of wood are the last of the dry stuff I had on deck for the season and I'm still burning every night. My Lopi ate up more wood this year than ever before. Same story for my neighbors and my parents. I'm usually good for 3.5ish cords a year and I'm over 4 now.
Shoulder season doesnt seem it will ever end around here. I havent burned last couple days, but could of. House is a little chilly in morning. I have plenty of dry wood, just don't want to move it up.
Do you have a three year plans worth of wood? Do most softwoods you PNW guys harvest dry fast once split? I know pine dries fast in these parts.
I’ve never used less wood than this year. No furnace and used a tad over 2 cords. I appreciate cooler temps in the house.
I'm guessing we burned just about 3 cord this year. A little less than average. Just means that I've now got 4yr red oak for next year!
Used about 4 cords this burning season, which is my average. Had a small fire last night (been having nights in the 20's still) but no fires during the day. If I burn my average, I'm closing in on being five years ahead. If I burn the most I've used during a winter (over 7 cords), I'm not even three years ahead. One reason to not stop scrounging. I'm with Canadian border VT regarding the weather. Personally I would have no problem burning all year long with cool temps versus heat, humidity and bugs.

I’m working hard to keep the oilman out of the driveway with the shoulder wood. I’ll usually do about 4.5 cord hard wood. I’m at about 3.25 cord hard wood and probably another 2 to 2.5 in shoulder wood. With the weather forecasted, this morning may have been to last fire for season.
This. Burning in May isn't unusual at all. It's just been colder than normal. A lot of wood was burned in December when we had a rare stretch of lows in the teens.
I have enough room to be on the 2 year plan and have about 7 cords right now. Most of our wood is ready in a year. If I have to, I can pick through the cedar I cut in September but most of it isn't ready.
Seems like never ending 50°days. 'Cept the last couple. Our stove has had a rest too now. Being our first full season of burning, and some of the wood we used was less that 20%mc, I am very interested to see what it looks like. Also as a first full season burning, I have no baseline to compare to. We had 5.5c ready to go, and scrounged another 3/4c from various places here. We'll have some long term folks staying with us shortly, and one more in the fall, so, planning 7cord/yr going forward. The kiddo and I helped a friend css last spring and fall. He used some, and split quite a bit on his own. A few days ago he let me know he's moving to florida, and I can have all the wood! Without measuring, it looks like 2+cord of 10 month seasoned ash and oak. We've brought in 2c thus far from other jobs to round out the 3 year plan. This stuff goes into year 4, or if things get and stay cold. All going to a friends yard, we're pretty much outta space here! Sca
