We’ll stick with pellets for primary heat. Too enjoyable.

Would be good to dump the oil, and the energy savings of the systems is meant to be great.

Cheaper than the jacked prices I see!

Next might be panels and a turbine to generate some ac current. Lots of wind when no sun up here. :D

My kids would kill me if I went back to pellets. Something about stairs and hot things.

My unit was $4,000 installed, I have one inside unit and just one outside thing with the fan. This is the same set up 4 others put in and are very happy. Some people have two wall units inside. The window of what Maine will rebate is very narrow and specific. The installers all know that and follow it to a tee. I could get another inside unit but only $500 back on that second unit. I've only had it for a year. So far, it does the trick. Warm enough except in the coldest weather and cool enough even in the hottest weather. Maine energy says to run the unit first and your furnace second. Keep in mind we live on the ground floor of a raised ranch. Our floors are cool. tile over cement. we only have 1100 sq feet of floor space. Open concept. Bed and bathrooms and the rest wide open. We do loose a lot to keep the porch heated. We can close that off should we want or if the cost gets too much.

You don't really need more problems, not that you didn't already know that. Just make sure you stay comfortable. Those mini splits are the cheapest things for hot and cold. No work. I know you know how to look into it if you have an interest.

Weather was lovely yesterday.....I got after cleaning the AC units (Evaporator inside and Condenser outside)
The Condenser gets really skunked up with moss on the lower third of the fins.

With horse pastures within 50 feet of the unit and the dust and such the moss grows well after it gets wet through the winter.

A coil brush (Flat thin stiff brush with 3" bristles) and patience along with shop air at 120 psi blown from the inside out gets the crud pretty well out..

Blew out the Evaporator coil too...
Still need to get the refrigerant topped off....Local fella with the license to work with refrigerants will stop by soon (After this batch of wet weather is over) and get the unit Juiced up.....

The unit is 28 years old now and the evaporator is looking like a 5 alarm train wreck ( Just a lot of crud and stuff that will not clean off any longer.

Plan is to try and get one more season out of this old girl and then replace the A coil and the condenser next year with new parts....

    Always something.....

  Have fun out there on the CT Mtns. JT! Hope you're enjoying a good Spring. (Watch out for those Solar panel connections, they sting worse than an electrified fence. :hair:)

Nice weather here today, for a change. ... Forecast is looking like the pellet stove may be finally shut down for the season.

Have a great weekend all! Lot's o' yard work, garden work, and 'chillin and grilling on the plate here. :grizz:
