My son shot a quick video of me playing with the new pickaroon this morning before I headed out to work. I'm still getting the hang of it, but this gives an idea of how I'm going to be using it:

Very useful tool. If I split for more than 2 hours I feel it. Using a pickaroon alleviates that pain quite a bit.

    Nice find, American made!

Releasing the point is the hardest. Gotta work on the wrist twitch, but I'll admit even that doesn't work all the time.

I tried the wrist release for a while but I had to find a better / easier way to get it out of oak. I stick a 6"-8" piece now, in one end, and land it on the work deck with the end of the log the pickeroon is in away from me... when it hits the deck, I can immediately lever the pick down easily, and it usually releases first time. No twisting. I have a hatchet and a Peavey from Peavey, but my 30" pickeroon is a LogRite. Wanted to try it, and I like it a lot. I use it to pick up branches too (it always seems to be in my right hand) just slide the pick under a branch, and it's it my other hand with no bending at all. After a while, don't even have to think about it. Of course, first time I stick it in my foot... I'll have time to think about it then... :picard:

Sorry to hear that. How do these Amazon vendors ship to Canada so cheap?

The Stihl/Logrite tools are powder-coated aluminum handles, not fiberglass. Part of why they are $$.

My son is really liking the new pickaroon, using it side by side with the Fiskars.

Yep, that pick is gonna get some use for sure. The tire around the split is a great protection ring isn't it? Glance off the split and it catches the swing instead of your shin. Man, everywhere you look you see firewood Brian... :axe:...

Plus it holds the logs until they're split. I've seen a tire used this way on a big log or stump on various forums and videos and thought it made a lot of sense. My oldest son and I mounted this one up on a big old locust log earlier this summer. Serves its purpose quite well.

Nice swing...straight over the top...very powerful!:)

I like the round a little lower so I can get a little knee bend just as the axe hits.

I need a pickaroon and I like hand made in the USA:)

Sounds like reason enough for a stop in Eddington, at the Peavey plant. If you've never been, the little showroom of all of their wood handle tools is... just... awesome.

Jeff said he would put together one with a 16" handle for me. Said 1-2 week lead time. Now I'm definitely going to need to get myself some logs to process this fall.
