Conjoined oaks

I had these two smaller oaks - 10”-14” in diameter on the lot behind me (see thread Almost my backyard) that were on the list of trees to come down but kept looking at them to try and figure out how it would go. They lean against each other and at about 15’-18’ up, they were joined. I figured I would make the wedge for both before cutting one down and I’m glad I did. I cut the smaller one first hoping it would fall but with even the slightest holding wood left it wouldn’t fall. I turned my attention to the larger one and as I made my back cut I watched them both start to move so I stepped away and they both fell in the direction of the larger tree. Quite an interesting cut but it’s done and I’m happy.

 

Tricky felling job (and above my skill level) Is this a black oak?

One the ground and youre in one piece. Good job Joe! Yeah sometimes multiple trees like that can be tricky. Nice there was room too for no hang up.
