I have piled up a bunch of Goldilocks oak for my 10yo son and his firewood stand. Today I brought the big splitter home and we hit it pretty good. We had 30 rounds left when he asked to quit. I said let’s finish but two minutes later his buddy from down the street showed up. I could tell he was spent and wanted to play so I pulled the plug on finishing. He’s now running around the yard and I’m the one who is beat and sitting on the couch with a beer in hand. Oh to be 10!
All true statements gents. I try to push him but also don’t want him to start to despise it. I feel like it’s a tight rope walk and I always try to make sure I don’t make him hate it. He enjoys the work but has his limits as any kid does.
I hated it. It was never much fun. I was never allowed to run a saw, just basically carry it places. Kudos for being aware . I let my son start running saw @ 13-14. It was great to share the hobby for a few years.
I saw that happen with a kid and a game. Dad lived basketball and pushed his kid since he was coach. I didn't really agree with the pushing 365 and even cut a kid his senior year after playing every year to make room on the team for his 8th grade son. Few years later kid is a senior and so full of basketball is life he puked it all back up, quit his senior year and refused to go out. Dad tried everything from bribery to threats. Even got into a screaming match with someone who just while talking about things tried saying he could see why the kid needed a break. Good on you for being able to bring a balance.
Reminds me when my wife and I were engaged. My 96yr old soon to be Grandmother-in-law was meeting my 85 yr old Grandmother for the 1st time and she said oh to be young and spry in my 80's
