I'm usually not this lucky, as I seem to find hardware in trees with the saw. However I cut up a a dead ash that fell down off the side of my driveway yesterday, and found this while splitting. Not big, but still would have been a chain changer. What a nail is doing in a random tree in the woods is anyone's guess. Happy Easter to all my fellow Firewood Hoarders.
Better to find it in the split or in the ashes than with the chain saw. Amazes me how common it is in trees. I saved this log last week just because it was cool growing around the wire.
I know where there’s a big chunk of cedar with some woven wire fence in it. I could ship it to you if you are starting a collection.
A few years ago I cut a tree behind the house. I didn't find any nails with the chainsaw but I found one in every round for the first 15-20 feet when I split them.
