Been wanting to make one for ages and finally got to it last weekend. Scored a couple 4'x8' hardwood pallets so gave me the inspiration. Ends from reclaimed pallet wood and PT decking. 4'x4'x8' inside and built on the hillside behind the shed. Just some vertical slats needed in back. With all the black locust i hoard i get enough nuggets and shorties. Good breeze always blowing up the hill. Need at least another or three at my other location.
I could benefit from something like this. My nuggets have been building up for a few years now, I have them on pallets, but they're overflowing onto the ground.
Mine too and all over the place. One of the annoying "by products" of scoring wood i didnt cut. A simple pallet bin works wonders if you have access to them. IBC totes are good as well but i dont have room for them or seldom see them.
Looks good Brad; great repurpose of free materials. I've got a similar one built from pallets that has worked out great for a couple years now.
Very helpful to measure up a cord of nugs. I'd imagine someone will appreciate the shorter/lighter pieces, making it a premium sale.
This season I learned about loading the stove matrix style, for overnight burns, and with my E/W stove, these nuggets can be put to good use. I just need one more season, for some to season.
One new customer of mine takes the 16" BL splits and bucks in half as he like shorts to load his stove that way. He commented how hard BL when cutting with his electric chainsaw. Ill offer them to him this Fall.
