Today was the day the plow came off the 4540 and three bags of sand got moved from the back of the RTV outside on a pallet. Once that was done, I washed the RTV and the wife's car, hopefully tomorrow I can finish stacking that row of pine.
I started the day by cleaning the chimney and then I washed my truck, after that it was time I cleaned the three point sander before putting it away for the year. I did get one chain sharpened that I've been cutting that dirty old pine with, maybe tomorrow I can get some hardwood down. I almost forgot, the propane tank received its spring cleaning.
Today I moved a face cord of seasoned ironwood to an area we keep our better firewood for the colder months , that will give us two face ready for the 2022 - 23 heating season. Since that opened up an area, I hauled the splitter over to some beech and ironwood I hauled out last December after we received some strong winds, after stacking what beech I split, I moved more beech from that same wind event out of the woods (stacked on pallets last December) and stacked that. That gives us 51 face cord stacked.
I'm going after more ash before the EAB makes them unsafe to fell. yooperdave , the more I put up this spring the less I'll need doing this fall. We're getting some snow today, thanks!
I split the two ash that I had bucked up, I'm pretty sure there's more ash splits in the first picture. We have some beech and maple I can add in with the ash so I'll add another face cord to our inventory.
Just some pictures of some downed, uprooted and damaged trees I plan on c/s/s, I'll grab the uprooted maples first. Pictures 1764 & 65 are the maples, 1775 is bigtooth quaking aspen, 2637 is a hemlock, I already took the beech and the last two are a wind damaged cherry. I also plan on felling another six ash on the hill in the back on our house property.
How long has it been since you had to fell a tree for firewood? lol Seems there is always trees down. Same here. I don't fell many anymore.
Great thread! Not sure how I missed it all this time . Looks like you get all kinds of hazards to deal with.
We've had our share of wind damage but I've managed on getting most of it back home for firewood, I should've had these trees c/s/s years ago. Backwoods Savage is correct when he said I didn't fell very many trees in my first 8 or 9 years of cutting but since EAB hit our county most of our wood has come from trees that I felled. I owned one chainsaw before we started heating with firewood and I used that getting rid of a tree that was blocking sun by the pool at our old house and then in the ice storm of 98 clearing a big limb out of a driveway for a lady a few house down. We have rain today so the morning was spent sharpening four chains and getting some saws ready for the last uprooted maple.
All the ash and some of the beech came from felling along with some maples but mother nature is still helping out.
