Here's the aerial view from my son's window upstairs. This portion of the yard under the pines runs to the street, perhaps a 45'x60' section of my 1 acre of the American dream. With just 2 tree removals I was able to have an easily accessible firewood lot. Truck, trailer, tractor all fit in there and split then just a few feet to the stacks.

I find myself finally on year 3 in the stacks and another half cord ready for year 4, plus some in length.

Where to put it? I don't know if going another row in will allow it to get any sun at all. I don't want rotten wood, and I try to stack only once until it is ready to burn. This is the western side, with stacks running N/S.

Any thoughts? This is the only area I want to stack near as it is easy access.

I see room for at least three more rows there! :binoculars:

I'm going to run out of room too. I was thinking about doing holzhausens after that.

    Nice stacks

Keep hoarding and stacking until you have a huge maze and then charge the neighbors to use it!

By the time I'm done stacking in a week, I'll have around 43 cord.....Most of it in one big "cube". I've found that wood seasons just fine, so long as it's top covered.

Were gonna need an overhead or wide angle shot of that. That's a big stack!

Surprised no one suggested cutting more trees to get more sun! C'mon fellas.

I might try to make a 4th row and if I find it needs to be moved.... Well, it wouldn't be the first time I've had to stack twice.

That front row is year 3. Already leaning :headbang: so I pushed it back. That's what I get for stacking at night, but time isn't exactly plentiful so make stacks when the moon shines, or something like that.

I'm thinking even if you have wood that is 3 or 4 years away from being used it doesn't necessarily need direct sun. It may just dry in that amount of time with the summer heat and the wind.

Some shade won't make your wood rot

That's exactly what I rely on......time. The wood will be ready, so long as you top cover if the area is shaded....

I have my 5 cords wrapped around the borders like a fence in the back and side. Mine don't get much sun either, and they dry in time. They also like to lean, especially if I try to stack them over 5 ft. high.
I was considering making a holtzhausen too, but 1) I really don't have the know-how to do it right, 2) it would probably take up more room in girth than I want, and 3) I am so anal that I would never want to deconstruct it once I got it assembled.

Ahem... do you know anyone who has experience climbing trees? You know... for work or sumthin...  Maybe they could get up there and take a few pics of the famous "cube" for all of us FHC hoarders to see... The satellite view is good but a pic from that pine would be cool... Oh yeah, maybe a pic of the guy who goes up there to take the pic would be cool too... :D

    No joke!
I have 2-3 cords in my driveway that have been there for over a month. I hate stacking wood bad enough while working, then to do it at home.. yeah...
