We've run the P43 off and on this past week, mainly just to take the chill off when it's been raining. If it gets chilly tonight or tomorrow night may run it again. Forecast for both nights is mid-30's. Watching The Masters and it's cold down in GA too, everybody in layers.

Fired up the stove last night before we went to bed as house was down to 65. Got up this morning at 6 it was 33* outside and the windows on the cars were iced over. Comfy 72 in the house.

Stove's been running since Friday, between work and modulate. Raining and cold yesterday. Just shut off for cool down and cleaning. ... Same here Sam - "frost on the Pumpkin" this morning.

Been working on rehabbing the utility trailer to pickup another FBM find, a circa 1980's Chipper/Shredder made by OMARK, holding Corp. of Oregon saws. It's a basic design w/ lot's of old time steel - back in the day, these were rated highly. Has a Briggs motor: it's completely old school: so sourcing a carb rebuild kit shouldn't be "impossible". Looked good / and complete in the ad - for $50 bucks, I won't be too heartbroken ... if it doesn't turn out legit. We'll see how it goes later.

Gotta get busy, have a good day all.

    Greetings all,

Well, the Chipper is very legit - and heavy. Took a ride w/ the Subaru Impreza HB to see if we could lift it into the hatch area safely, no dice.

Weighs 220+ lbs. at least. ... Old school steel. Too heavy for old Driver. :BrianK:

It's got a Briggs 8hp, vertical shaft drive motor. Date code on the motor is 1971: I was 5 yrs. old when it was born. :) No manufacture date on the chipper body.

    * Needs: carb rebuild, gas tank cap (it's so old, the top vent fabric in the old tin gas cap is disintegrating to dust), fuel lines, spark-arresting muffler. And a good general soaking in PB Blaster / Marvel Mystery Oil. ... And a new pull rope, and recoil spring. The lower metal stand / brace is missing a part, I'll have to fabricate a replacement.

Chipper / shredder chamber is at approx. 16" in diameter: it's big, and looks like it was made for serious work. All the shredder (blade) flails are free, the chipper blade is 4" wide. Everything still has an edge, is straight: no chips, deformation, or rust inside (amazed at that), just needs a quick sharpening. And a good soaking thru w/ oil.

Back story is it's a barn find: purchased by a local antique dealer - found in the back corner, covered under a horse-drawn sleigh carriage body flipped over it (assuming to protect it?), with 20+ chairs stacked around & on top of said sleigh. Been stored that way for 30+ years, according to the son of the original owner. ... It's been in a time-capsule. :loco:

... I have to get a new trailer hitch installed on the Subaru Impreza this Tuesday (already have the hitch here), w/ wiring, and I should be good-to-go to pickup this week.

    A couple of pics:

Time to go order some engine parts, have a great week all.

    One for the record books....

April snow.....I have never seen any here in April.
Well now...The perfect storm came to pass late Sunday into Monday

We got 6" of very heavy wet snow....Power knocked out at 3:30am Monday morning.....

We were awakened by the smoke alarm screaming its guts out.....

Hurry to get that thing shut off and the alarm cancelled .....

Get the gen set rolled out and fired up...

Put the big Quadrafire 1000 on the job of keeping the shack warm......

The late season snow plus new green foliage was too much for a lot of the old brushy trees.....

    Power back at 7:20pm yesterday.

All the mundane tasks of stowing the gen set, setting clocks, putting cords away and generally getting things back to normal were pretty well done by 8:30 and then off to bed.

Little Harbor Freight 4000 watt gen set has been a real winner for us....
    Some pics

The tree that took out our power....TAKEN AFTER the power company opened the disconnects and grounded all the phases......

A lot of broken limbs and other issues ......

This morning we are still seeing a few snow showers....nothing big.....

BUT IN APRIL ???? A record breaker for sure.
    After Weds. 70+F afternoon...wow....what a change....

    Really sure

This morning we are getting round 2 of our April snow.....
Another couple inches fell last night.....
Nothing like the Sun/Mon mess though.

We are running the stoves like this was winter.....We have plowed through 5 barrels of the last shell run we did.

I expected that at this time we would be running only the little stove to take care of the heat......Yesterday we ran both stoves until early evening and then shut down the little guy and ran the big stove on low ...

I rolled out at about 3:30 am this morning and kicked the big guy up on high and then decided to crank up the Quadrafire (We use it mostly during power outages any more) and let it run one cycle (It's on a T stat) just to get the house back up to 72/73 F

    Yeah buddy.....Crazy weather.....

Never seen snow on the ground in April around here......

And to have it twice now .....Been nearly a century since any lowland snow has been recorded this late in the season...

Sure hope the summer is not a Cold wet one....Really don't want a scorcher like last summer either...75 F is fine....

We had flurries Sunday. I put my new to me tractor plow on and though I might be able to use it! Put the wife's bird houses up and froze my ears!! Had to run in and get a winter hat.

Last 3 days have been nice besides the rain passing through. I think we hit 70ºF today??
