I've given WWW power of attorney a couple times (like surgery and when we sold our previous home so he could sign for me at the closing) but it's always for special occasions, not a blanket one.

    Edit, yes, married 2? years

    That's a good idea, I didn't think of that.

The reason to have it in place is so that of either one of you becomes incapacitated the other one can make medical and financial decisions on their behalf. Health is kind of irrelevant because even in good health people have strokes, accidents and so forth. We did ours when we were in our 30s. If you don’t have a will, now would be a good time to do that as well.

Not for hospice or later in life. For all time and everyone should have a medical power of attorney on file at home and at your normal hospital.

The last time we had to use it was when my gall bladder burst. They were prepping me for surgery when suddenly my body went berserk. I went cold and shivered uncontrollably just as they brought the paper to sign. I could not sign and the last thing I remember was my wife telling them she had POA. I passed out. She signed and all was well. What if she had not been there?

In your case, what happens if you were to have a bad accident? What if sometime someone has to decide, for instance, if an amputation should be done. what about a heart attack? One can think of many instances where decisions need to be made and what if you can not make those decisions?

It costs nothing and may never be used but a good thing to have.

We went through getting a power of attorney for me when campinspecter worked in the woods and every piece of banking and business had to done in person. It got rather expensive to have to take a day off work to sign something. I haven't had to use it very often but when I did, it made a difference.

A will and a plan as to what will happen with your children(under 18) god forbid something happens to both parents. You certainly don’t want your child living in state custody while things get worked out.

When I was in the service back in the 60's, we were advised to get a will drawn up and be sure to list a guardian for any children. This was during the Viet Nam era.
Backwoods Savage is correct about needing two POA's. One to handle financial stuff and another for health care. They can be two different people. We have 2 sons and each of them has a different area of responsibility regarding POA's.

For sure! We worried what could happen with our children should the worst happen. The time to take care of these things is now.

That’s exactly what we did when the kids were young. It is amazing how many bases you need to cover. If you die intestate, all your property does not automatically go to your spouse. It gets divided among your wife and kids. If you have young children this creates a problem with access to money, your deed on your house, etc.

Working on cleaning up the front porch today. Got some new carpet down and am getting ready to paint it. I have to get some real enamel nothing else seems to stick to the old sun cracked wood.

Spent several hours on the tractor over the weekend moving dirt and old gravel by the shop.

I dug the lean-to area down about 8"-10", spread all that dirt in low spots in the yard, scraped up all the junk rock (a mix of everything from septic rock, pea gravel, white rock, and road base) that was the "driveway" in front of the shop...used that rock to fill half the lean-to pad back up, and got everything ready for a few tri-axle loads white rock.

It was a lot of work but I needed a place to bury the junk rock and the yard had plenty of low spots so it was worth it. Yard looks a little rough now, but a few good rains and some grass seed and it will be good to go.

Next step is to get the posts laid out so I can have the boys dig holes.

Interesting, the horses are in the back yard this morning. We had a mud storm here a couple weeks ago, for real, chunks of mud flying through the air like rain drops! I'm not sure why the horses are grazing in here, the sparse lake grass is no different than on the outside of our property fence, but they are, maybe our yard has some spots with less mud than the open space? Or, seems like the herds are reorganizing & claiming different territories and such since the mountain ones were driven back down several weeks ago. Maybe a combination of both. Just seems hard for a big animal like that to get enough food by eating 1-2" tall sparse blades of lake grass coming up. It's illegal to feed them or I'd buy a bale of hay.

Got all the blackberry posts and wire supports set. The ground was too soft to get a good tamp on the posts so I'm going to wait a couple weeks to run wires.

What kind of blackberries are you growing? Around here, the Himalayan blackberries grow wild. They are constantly trying to get into my garden.

I have no idea what kind they are. Somebody I used to work with gave me one plant in a red plastic cup 10 years ago and now we have 100' of plants. They are a really good thornless variety.

We have wild ones but they are much smaller and less sweet than these.

Well I didn't start the saw today, but I did get the wood splitter and split about a 1/2 chord or so before it started raining. Opened up the stack so the ice melts out from the pile. Still no sign of mosquitoes..
