That’s the boat I was in also… sold the 361 (probably should have kept it) and bought the 400c, but was undecided between the 400 and 462. So far I really like the 400, it’s everything I thought it would be. I think the answer is you need both the 400 and 462…. :)

The 400 wears the 20” and the 462 wears the 28”… problem solved.

1200 is a bit high. The one i got had dropped the price and i made and offered 950. I got a six pack of 16/1 Stihl mix with the saw (it was actually five so im guessing less than a gallon of mix though it). Looked back at FB and it was a year and a half old and used three times.

i agree it on the high side. The light bar and second new chain is worth $150, but still on the high side. Doesn’t matter now that it’s priced at 1400…. And these are the best prices I’m seeing! Just need to be patient…

I need you to find me a minty 462, with a light bar! Again, nice job finding those two…

There was one on FBM befre i got mine, just as nice and went cheaper. I wasnt looking for a 462, but a 400 and after finding out the powerhead a few ounces more than a 400 i went the 462 route. Of course the 400 i was eyeing came back up for sale right after that so ended up with that one too! :picard: :emptywallet:
I dont browse FBM for saws as much as to used to but will keep an eye out. Cant guarantee a lightweight bar though.

Question for you: how much more is a Stihl light weight bar vs. a conventional one?

A lot... If you want to swap out a 20" new bar for a new 20" ES light is like $90 more with tax and it goes up from there on longer bars.

WOW!!! A tsumuara bar is only a few bucks more than a regular Stihl bar based on what ive seen. Are the lightweight Stihls even lighter than the Japanese ones? I have one 24" Tsumura bar that came with my 400.

Well happy birthday to you my friend! :handshake: I couldnt think of a more perfect gift than that...well maybe a 500i! I saw (no pun intended) another 462 last night. Barely used, but they wanted all the money...$1200 i think. M2theB informed me of a used 400 this morning...$850 OBO
    Stihl MS400C Chainsaw 20" Bar - tools - by owner - sale
Third used ive seen for sale in my area, including the one i bought.

Cant wait to see pics of it!

EDIT: i just clicked the CL ink and the asking price is now $795 OBO

EDIT 2: i forgot you had sold the 361 for the 400. Was just rereading the thread.

I unintentionally did that! :emb: Like em both but seem to prefer the 400 more with the "bark box" and accessories that came with it.

i think the 400 is a decent deal at $795.. although I have one. Pics coming if I get the 462 this weekend…
I did NOT get a “Buzzsaw” deal on it though…. :makeitrain"

Yea, great self gift…. I like your thinkin…!

I can’t wait to see how it runs… likely to put a 28” bar on it and I have a 28”or so oak on the ground to test it out.

Havent run the 462 with a longer bar yet, just the 20" Ran the 400 with the 25" Tsumara a couple time.

Forgot to mention, ill turn 54 on Monday. Having bought three saws already this year, im wondering if i should buy another???...but what? The 400 was an "early" gift and i just sold my other 261.

    Any thoughts or suggestions guys?

YES, but what? Thinking a 241, 200 top handle or a decent 036 Pro (i really liked it more than my 361) even though it had a few tanks though it under my ownership.

See if Donny Walker can hook you up on a 241. I wouldn’t recommend getting a$$ raped on a clapped out 200. I like a light 40cc pro saw and you already have 201’s. You should have an 044 in your collection. I’ve never seen an 036 pro, but it sounds like a good addition to your fleet. You still have 90-121cc class open in your collection. I’ll be 54 in June, so it might be 500 time. Ffs they are probably 1600 now.

Who's Donny Walker? Thought he made whiskey?  JK!
Ive thought of the 044 as well and have seen a couple 441's that were decent but the 462 filled their shoes.
I remember reading on AS about an 009 with an 012 top end. 40cc turned into a 45cc top handle. Running a 12" bar gotta be a beast of a saw?
I owned my 036 pro (same as your 034) for a few months last year until it had starting issues and i sent it packing. I can see you point on a 661, but honestly a saw id rarely use. The 460 and 500 will run a 36" bar okay in the rare case its needed.
