I know you do a lot of work in the dark in the warmer months. How close are the neighbors? Nice that the hickory is done. Do you focus on one species once its split stock is low/empty or do you work the oldest inventory first?
Neighbors aren't too close, have heard a few grumbles...lol... Usually try to get oldest first, unless someone puts in an order. I didn't know how long those hickory logs had been cut, it doesn't handle the weather as good as oak.
After the storms went by Tues and Wed, we had good weather Thursday. We went back to Tony's place to get the oaks he laid down. This was most of them, had about 8 more still in the woods. Used the Husky55 and Kubota w/grapple. Picked them up, limb, mark at 10.5' , buck and load. The trees came from the area behind me. They were tall, most over 60', we got 5-6 logs off each tree. 1st load done, we had 3 trees in this bunch left. 2nd load, we finished all the trees he had pulled up. He had brought more trees in from site clearing jobs he's done. Got 2 ash logs, a couple bigger red oaks and small white oak.
Some nice logs. What is your preference for log size? Those are easy on the back, but more to handle of course.
Good size for my hunny to split while I'm at work... Some is to small, but we will put it in the limb or campwood pile
Keep haulin Jeff, we're getting killed by the mud/rain up here. We got three jobs we're waiting to get into. About 30 cord of logs if we can get em.
I feel ya, brother. We have a big job, for us, lined up. Wanted to start it on my 7 days off, stormed 2 of those days, the the winds from the front moving through made dropping trees unsafe. Hope this coming week on my days off will fare better.
Last few years it seems like it rains and snows till mid May, then flips to summer. End of this week is predicted to be 40's and rain again.
When I was growing up I remember June being quite warm and September being long pants and sweatshirt weather. It seems the opposite here in recent years.
To me it seems as though spring and fall have become more dreary, especially spring. Last few summers have been hot and sticky, I despise that weather. It seems like when temps are moderate, 45-65 it's raining. I'd rather have sun and 20.
