See if they can post more pics before you decide. Ive asked for them and some oblige, some dont. Maybe there is more not pictured. If a score is farther than i normally go ill see if i can kill two birds with one trip. BL is the only wood ill do that for though. Im , but most regular FHC viewers know that already!
I always heard that getting there was half the fun, this makes it sound like getting in/out might be exciting also…
I was thinking the same thing. Those small diameter logs are furrowed like a much larger truck would be not a small branch of that size. Cottonwood is furrowed as well but usually that size I don't think it's furrowed blue that either we have cottonwood around here but not much and I don't pay it much attention bin the woods or anything.
How hard is wood to get around you!!! Your wasting you time to go that far for that small amount of wood, black locust or not! It's not much for one. If you could get 2-3 times more less quality wood 15 minutes from the house it would make more sense. Unless you go that far to shop and can combine trips for something!
A couple of the pieces showing end grain seem to have a large center pith that I’ve never seen in BL. My 2¢.
Wood really couldn’t be any easier to get than where I live. I live in the Pike National Forest. I’m literally surrounded by the stuff. But I’ve never even seen Black Locust, let alone burned it
I personally think its over hyped...no way am I going an hour away for it, unless maybe if its a paid clean up job, something like that. If I'm driving an hour, it would have to be for a heavy hitter, like some shag...
Then NO way I'd drive an hour to get it! You can get away more low quality wood easier even if it's not as hot and doesn't last as long you will be money and time ahead cutting anything else you can.
They did not reply yet. I feel like I’m slowly being convinced not to make the drive to go check it out.
PITA dealing with CL/FBM folks. Ive contacted some recently with no replies even after multiple tries. Have one i looked at right around the corner i have to hit yet this week. Hopefully they respond to you soon.
I feel like I should go to the GTG and bring as many BL rounds/logs as I can fit in a truck bed with all this talk of it and being so coveted by some of you Sent from my LE2127 using Tapatalk
If taken green off the stump, I would agree. But DDBarkless BL… at the top of the list, IMHO. Of course, you know as we all do… we’ve all been thru some touted woods that others think are the King… but nay. I speak (as several do) with experience and authority on the overnight-ness of semi petrified BL Superb, in and of itself.
Meh...I think it depends on the stove its burnt in...it likely does better in old school stoves, in EPA stoves it seems to take more air to burn right, and then goes to a red hot lump of coals rather quickly...and as we all know, many people can't heat their house on a stove full of coals. And just FYI, you posted this about the same time I was editing my post to say I'd rather have a load of SBH...not saying BL is bad, just not worth going completely gaga over...unless maybe it is for people with old school stoves...dunno about all that.
