MACKINAW CITY, MI — The U.S. Coast Guard is aiding a Mackinac Island ferry that experienced mechanical problems and went adrift with passengers aboard Tuesday evening. The Huron, a winter service ferry owned by Star Line, lost steering about 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 5, while en route to the island, according to the Coast Guard. The vessel is drifting slowly with the current east of the Mackinac Bridge in heavy fog. It’s not in danger of grounding, said Chief Petty Officer John Masson, a public information officer with the Great Lakes district.
