I don’t blame you in the least. The only way to make meat safe for hamburger is to blanch it in hot water before putting it in the grinder. The outer part of a steak or roast is where the bacteria is.

If my memory is good, my mom would tell of crushing up saltine crackers and adding milk and eating it. Must have been a depression thing.

Used to order a "timber float" at restaurants. A glass of water with a toothpick floating in it!

And then there's the guys who would empty the bottles of ketchup into their 1/2 glass of water to get tomato juice.....

Seriously, I heard depression era stories of people walking alog the railroad tracks to pick up any coal that had fallen off the coal cars. And also, after the potato farms had their harvest, people would head out into the fields and grab what ever small leftovers they could find.

Hard times; a H.S. diploma was rare, college was even more uncommon!

Out on the west coast in our area is a bad outbreak of e coli in oysters. Fortunately no has died last I heard.
God gave his people some very good advice in Leviticus 11 about eating meat. Before the Jewish nations arose, Noah knew about the difference between clean and unclean foods. The same principles apply today when you think that usually an unclean animal is a scavenger animal.

My father liked bread and milk. He would tear up the bread and stuff it into a glass. Seems the family ate lots of it during the depression.

I knew a man once who told stories of people sneaking on trains and throwing coal off. Later someone would pick up the coal and take it home.

My mother ate raw hamburg. I tried it once. Only once.

Way back, a long long time ago, I worked at Wendy's #2. Had one customer who wanted his burger raw. We could not serve raw, so the agreement was throw it on the grill, count to 5, flip it, count to 5 and serve. Not a fan of raw here but can tolerate medium rare.

It's a racoon that keeps burrowing under the deck, not a skunk. Used the trail cam but don't know how to get the pics to here. (surprise)

At least it isn't as smelly as a skunk.

That's about how I like my steak - Just introduce it to the flame, but don't let a friendship start. Hamburger is a different story. medium rare is more to my liking.

When I was about 12ish, at my best friends house and his dad was making burgers on the grill. We were hanging out watching, he put all but one on and ate the last one raw. I will never forget it. o_O

Hoping for a decent weekend here. We started with some sunshine, which we haven’t had for several days.

We're getting some Indiana early spring weather here today. One minute it is sunny, the next it is snow/sleet/rain.

I have 2 more locust posts to set this evening for my blackberry/raspberry trellis....tomorrow I'll mount the wire holders and run wire. I'll probably wait a week or two to tension the wire and get the posts plenty of time to settle in. 8 posts total for 175' run of berries.

Need to get to the BMV today but I'm not sure I have that kind of patience on a Friday afternoon. Might just hang out here and kick that can down the road to next week.

We do, couple times a week, though not in our driveway, they are usually out in the BLM openspace. Late winter every year cowboys drive all of them ended up in the mountains for the winter. Just like you see in westerns, but it's along the highway. IMPRESSIVE! This herd here already had new foal.

Campaign time is heating up. Not home before dark most nights this week, but tonight I am taking some of my staff and their spouses to a nice steak place for finishing a major project.

Tomorrow, off to a local fire department for pancakes with the Easter Bunny. send along any recipes you may have for rabbit.
