In my quest for free materials for a new woodshed, I committed to tear down this free dog kennel CL post. It’s 8x10, so if I opened it up it would be a total of 4x20 of open faced storage. I spent seven straight hours (no break, no food, no water, no bathroom) taking it apart carefully, and I’m not done. The roof halves are too big to fit in my 2000 Dodge van, and they’re way too heavy to work with anyway. I massively underestimated the challenge of working with an already-shingled roof. Moral of the story: I’m an idiot. So much of my hoarding is fruitful, but once in a while I fall flat on my face.
One word. Crane…. Then fly it over the house and put it on the roof of your van. Take pictures. I’d love to help with the bill but I just filled up the truck so I’m kind of out of cash right now.
Sounds like an episode for a firewood hoarding show. You think the roof is work, wait till you get to the slab.
Too bad you couldn't sawz-all the posts at the concrete pad then drag it onto a trailer or flatbead in one piece and reverse the process at your house. Take off the door and call it done. Just add wood. Great for a free find.
Nice little building. Too bad you underestimated, but hopefully you can get it done and put back together. Make a list of the materials used and price it out online from a big box store website and that may help you feel better. Even for a small wood shed materials are out of sight. Ask any one on here who has built one. Seems to be very well built and as mentioned the gutters (been doing gutters for 35 years). I noticed them right away! Best of luck with it and post pics.
True, buZZsaw BRAD . I built this one in April 2021. Materials alone cost over $1100 (probably well above that now). It’s 16’x5’. So, hopefully, this project is worth your time, JiminyK.
Just keep at it and don't get discouraged, it's a very nice little shed! Also, you're not an idiot as long as you have a habit of learning from experiences. Being an opportunist sometimes hurts, that's just all there is to it! When you get it home and all put back together, post pictures and everybody's gonna be jealous!!

Looked at a small gutter job today. Actually a roofer by trade. Took over dads business in 1988. Also did gutters, chimney work, repairs etc. I had gone to vocational school to be a carpenter so mostly do small exterior work now. Chain saw work, wood sales too.

(Haven’t figured out yet, how to explain the lack of a locust tree when he shows up, still working on that part)

JimBear, you think Osage is the answer to everything. Tell me more! [/QUOTE] Not the answer to everything but Brad said he doesn’t have any out there in his neck of the woods so it would be a suitable replacement for black locust. I am guessing that Sawdust Man has some Osage down there.
That dog shed is nicer than my house! Heck, if I could move that to my property, I'd put walls on it and call it a guest cottage!

Osage has a mystic with me, cause I'm surrounded by it and haven't had any access to it till recently. Now that the season's practically over, it'll be 8 months before I can try it out. Heck it'll be another month before I can get to it with all the rain.
