If I had 30k getting dusty I wouldn’t mind getting one of these Supposedly gets 7hr run time on a charge
It’s a demo, so we will find out soon. For a grass cutter! A man would have to have a $90k diesel and $20k trailer to show it off properly
I'm thinking how much it would be to pay someone to mow your grass. I'd think 30k could get you a few years, lol!
Considering its three times the price of their gas Pro-Turn, I don't see it selling well. Unless money starts growing on trees.
Accurate. I see so many rigs worth (new MSRP) more than the biz grosses in a year. I chuckle because more than likely they just had to justify the truck purchase to the spouse.
Send a couple this way please. Rare as hen's teeth here in rust country. For 30K that thing better mow without an operator and wipe my azz when it's done!
With a certain state banning (off-road) internal combustion engines your choice is either be like Cuba and keep your equipment in service for decades or new production battery powered equipment. Rough math if it lasts 2000 hours and cost an extra 15000 that’s only an increase of $7.5 per hour of operation. Fuel consumption on mowers is 1-3 gph so will offset some of purchase cost IF you can maintain equal productivity!!!
Yea I'm too lazy to run the next numbers. I did for awhile watch a grass cutting guy on YouTube. He used battery stuff. He said it allowed him to get started before 7 or 8 am in some neighborhood that had no noise before those times. He said everyone said the batteries didn't last. He had a weed eater and said I have used this on x houses for about x minutes or whatever. I forget butt it was way longer than you would think. Everything wasn't battery he had. He did have a battery push mower that he used and I was amazed at how long it went on a battery. I was thinking bit was like 5-8 hours or something....many city lawns. He of course had multiple batteries.
No it’s going to be required for mowing certain properties university in Burlington for example. I know one guy that bid it was 5x last year.. why are woke universities soo expensive
I did some quick math on the EGo residential ZTR's coming out and unless the batteries last 10+ years, its cheaper to go gas. For $5k, you get a unit that's at about the same quality level as a $3k gas machine. And then it gets expensive quick if you want the two extra battery packs to max out the run time. What happens if you want to make a quick second pass? That's only a possibility if you have a small (well under 1 acre) lawn. Commercially, I'm a bit skeptical how these get you into a residential neighborhood earlier than a gas or diesel powered unit. Much of the noise from a ZTR comes from spinning 3 large blades at high RPM, and the engine noise only adds a bit to that. Would it noticeably quieter? Sure. Would it be quiet enough for you to mow past Mrs. Johnson's bedroom window at 7am? Not likely. If it is that quiet, then the blades are modified for less airflow or the spindle speed is reduced, all of which translates into a productivity loss. Early morning mowing is typically a wet affair too for much of the season. Mrs. Johnson probably doesn't want those clumps in her yard either. For runtime, so many variables. You might be able to mow a 1 acre lawn with a 21" battery unit, if you are mowing in northern states with cool-season grasses at 3"+. Come down here and mow a Bermuda/Zoysia lawn at <2" and let's see what you're getting for runtime then. For handheld tools, like edgers, string trimmers, hedge clippers and small blowers, I can see plenty of advantages for battery, and the running/purchase costs aren't big enough to be a game changer. But for a mower? The stars have to be aligned for it to have a real leg up still. Sometimes they do, but not even close to being the majority of the time.
The Gravely ev is noticeably quieter than a gas powered equivalent. It makes a strange e motor noise at travel speed, but while cutting you mostly hear blades whirring and cutting. The battery was at 56% after operation last Friday. I don’t know how many hours it spent cutting to get to 56%. If I remember I’ll check the hour meter tomorrow morning.
Hey I'm not saying it makes sense or is a smart business model to buy a $30k battery mower. As for what the guy on YouTube, just a random guy that I found through the algorithm. Watched half a dozen videos a year or two ago and that's it. No idea of the life the batteries end up with as in years they last or how much original cost is. The noise thing I think was for other people not sure if it was the home he was doing, again I didn't care enough to pay close enough attention to the details of it. As to the lawn size l, were probably talking closer to 1000sqft front yards...no where near an acre of grass per property. I am skeptical of it myself. There is lots to crunch in this. Lots of these guys also trade equipment often so they don't have repairs or pay someone to fix things. Repair bills can add up if you pay someone before every little thing. I don't care anything about yard stuff. I just cut the grass when it needs to look halfway decent. Absolutely despise a weed eater and use glyphosate where I can instead of a weed eater. With chemical prices the way they are I might use the weed eater more this year. Ha
