The old Husky 261 is getting tired and parts starting to get hard to find, so purchased a new Stihl 271 Farm Boss with 20" bar. Attached picture shows first load cut with it. At todays heating oil prices here in PA, 2 loads like that will more than cover the cost of the saw compared to if I was running the furnace, in fact burning/heating with wood will save me more than $2500 this year!
Wow that is like saving a little more than 200 dollars a month. Good for you. Now that the saw is paid for you can start thinking about the next one. Maybe one a year. There is a saying that a wise person once said on here. I need just one more cord and one more saw.
I love it when my neighbors are talking about their $450.00 heating bills each month and my highest bill has been $67.00 for the last 3 years. Mike in Okla
Nice load. I just drove from Mechanicsburg to the north end of Landisburg. Sooo much dead wood laying roadside. Almost makes me ill seeing it go to waste.
Oh I can believe it. I have a lot of old saws still running good that I use all the time. I was just having a little fun with you.
No, most are insulated pretty good but a lot of them are Lake side cabins built in the 60’s &70’s . But some of them are BIG. Also a lot of the houses here are total electric (like mine). Natural gas is unavailable and propane companies here charge a fee (high) to deliver propane if you don’t adhere to their minimum usage. They also have a high monthly fee (penalty) if you don’t heat with propane. Mike in Okla
Good fun, thanks. I need to visit you, like I need an excuse to go to WY??? Three of the four saws are still in use. Only one not is the first I ever bought, a Homelite 400 in 1973.
the real value is when the power goes out , you'll be able to stay warm in your home . last winter during an ice storm many in my area were without power and heat for 3 weeks , they abandoned their homes and went to a motel. 3 weeks in a motel and come home to frozen burst pipes . yup the saw and work pays for it's self as an insurance policy . I've been heating with wood for 40 yrs , when I'm too old to cut wood I'll still keep a shed full for just such emergencies
I am not too far from I-80 and have had few guys stop by. Not much to see here but we could sure talk saws.
Husbands's had an MS271 since the mid-late 90's (I forget) and it works well for him and what he cuts though it did not say "farm boss". Hasn't used it alot since 2014 but still a great saw for him when he does use it. Only thing he's not thrilled with is the new style oil cap he wasn't used to.
Smart move going from Husky to Stihl. So many are realizing this that Stihl cant keep up with it! Stihl also makes a 261...great saw. Best of luck with the new purchase and wanna see lots of pics!
