Had a little quiet time this week at work here in the shop so decided to make a couple clocks.

The saw blade was from a cutout of aluminum plate and the drop out from the center of the part looked way too good to me to throw it in the scrap bin so I decided to give it a new life. A few minutes on the CNC machine to lay out the numbers and clock pattern then a little paint and a cheap Amazon clock movement and this is what I ended up with saw blade clock.jpg

The second one is for my desk in the office here at work. An old connecting rod and piston again with an inexpensive clock that was the perfect size to fit in the big end of the rod. connecting rod clock.jpg

Now off to work on a mount for a laser line module that I will use on the saw mill to see where my cut will be going on the log.

    Just thought I would share.

I've seen saw blades with scenes painted on them used for clocks, but I don't think I've ever seen just bare blade with the pattern cut before. Looks really nice

Thanks , this was just a quick one.

I have more blanks and going to work on another one with some engraving done on the CNC machine for the next one.
It's on my to-do list but probably won't make it to the top of the list anytime soon. Lots of other things ahead of it on the dreaded list.

My sister has a lazer engraver and did a can cooler for me. She just used the clip art from the orange logo at the top of the page.

Both nice clocks buzz-saw . I especially like the piston. The saw blade clock brings up some ideas for a chainsaw clock for the GTG's maybe?

    Thanks.
Piston and rod were from a blown up Big Block and the clock insert from Ebay for just under $10
Saw Blade is a cutout from the rings we make for Bead-Lock wheels

All made from scrap parts and a little too much free time at my day job.

Customer brought in a motor that had a dozen 1/8 mile passes down the track and when he pulled the plug to change the oil it was loaded with matal particles. ; looked like silver paint mixed with oil = BAD.
Pulled the pan and found it had spun all 8 rod bearings , the previous builder had never torqued any of the rod bolts ; you could have removed them with a 1/4 drive ratchet.
End reasult was a set of 8 rods , 8 pistons that had metal imbeded in the skirts , crank had to have the rod journals cut down to a small block chevy size of 2.100 from the normal big block diameter. Too far gone to even consider welding .

Hardest part is we are still waiting for a set of rods and pistons. Parts are near impossable to get now a days.

Ouchy. What brand are the rods/pistons? Appear to rather high end :)

We built many smallblock race motors for years. Don't leave a grease rag in a oil return gallery....... That motor made 4.5 outstanding laps. Boom. The rotating assembly was shall we say. Visible. And the damm thing was still running as the car pulled into the pit. The driver asked me if it was a race ending problem? I almost fell over:picard:

JE pistons and BME rods ; yes on the upper end of the scale price wise.
Money for the customer is the least of his worries. The worst part of the whole thing is the lead time for parts. Still waiting for pistons and rods for this thing.
We have a couple Iron Eagle smallblock Chevy blocks on order , estimated ship date as of now is June 2023 and they have been on order since beginning of January. No that is not a error ; yup 2023
