"About ten percent of an adult wild turkey's diet consists of small animals, including insects such as stink bugs, grasshoppers, and ground beetles, as well as snails, slugs, worms, spiders and other invertebrates." And yes, they do indeed eat ticks because of their great eyesight.

We see them all year just never this many. I remember a few times last summer seeing 2-3 adults with a dozen or so babies behind them walking through the yard from the woods behind the house, across the front yard, across the street into wooded areas between the houses.

I started putting seed on the ground as well as in the feeders cause I figured the squirrels were gonna get at the feeders anyway (heard them running across the roof and take flying leaps at the feeders and they got good at it) and have seen a few turkeys around eating. Guess they told the rest of the clan.

Seem to show up around the same time (1-2pm) and follow the same path down the hill and out across the bottom of the hill when leaving. Thought it was funny how they saw me but just stopped and watched till I was done.

They seem to be somewhat creatures of habit. When I was living in NY, there was a house that had a "Turkey Crossing" sign by the road....the turkeys would come by almost every day around the same time.

Busy day yesterday ordering up some more kitchen finishes. Had a time finding natural hickory trim kits. Wound up just buying bits and pieces to fab my own. Fun fun!! Ended the day with an awesome corned beef and cabbage dinner. Dam I love that stuff, Like the Turkey on Thanksgiving. I could certainly enjoy that meal several times a year!! And my belly totally agrees. :beerbbq:

And I got some of the fire sale pellets heading to the bunker. 4 tons being delivered next Monday. $203/ton was a no brainer IMHO. :makeitrain"

We have many wild turkeys here. They travel a pretty large region, roaming like a herd to different areas throughout the year. Sometimes we will see them every day and then they will move onto another area and we wont see them for weeks or months. When they are here, they like to roost in the tallest white pine trees. At dusk they fly up and at the crack of dawn they fly back down. Little buggers definitely were not meant to fly, but it sure is funny watching them try.

Same here! Above 60 today - remainder of Sn*w is almost melted. Back yard looks great, front yard, not.so.much. Got a day or three of cleanup of storm debris to do.

"The Boss" is anxious to 'go outside & play in the dirt' this year, so we'll be turning it right around, from sn*w blowing to garden tilling.

Lot's of bulbs to plant this Spring. :)

JT that bluebird sees his reflection in the window and thinks it's another male bluebird (competition) so he's trying to run it off. Few years ago in the spring, we had a male cardinal here doing the same thing. He would arrive at dawn and wake us up pecking at the window, and then continue onto various other windows throughout the day. Drove us nuts.

He was doing it again this morning even though the windows were all fogged up. Not like he could see through, But must have still seen his reflection. He is keeping the kitties amused and startles them at times. Getting a kick out of their reaction to his goofiness!! :D

Peepers are out! All it took was one 70 degree day!
I spent the day replacing cedar fence posts. They have been in the wet ground next to the swamp for 12 years. There are 11 of them and half of them are rotted. The ones that aren't rotted are loose. I set the new ones with an 80 pound bag of concrete and the good but loose ones will get some concrete overshoes. Dam I feel old!

71* here yesterday. Opened up some windows while I cleared up debris in the yard. Spent a couple of hours clearing invasive rose canes and picking up winter branch breakage.

I'm going to have to break out my electric chainsaw to shorten those pieces in front. Theay are 4-5" in diameter and about 10' long The 2nd one back was actually about 20' long when it fell, but happened to break in half when it landed (the other piece is between the one you can see and the pile behind).

    Wood drops - some 5 inch diameter.jpg

    Pile of rose canes/whips
    rose canes and whips cleard.jpg

The cleared area behind the fence. I should have taken a before pic, but that entire area was covered with roses and they were climbing the trees.About 15' to that fence post and 5-6' in width. The property line goes thru the left side of that rock and angles a bit. This picture is very deceiving as the fence is four 6' panels in length. The pin is 5-6' further than that (but not nearly to that fallen tree in the upper right hand quadrant)

roses cleared top section end of fence.jpg

My back is to the other pin at the road - this is the only time of year I could possibly do the sighting between the two. Pins were set over the winter and found it goes about 1.5' further than I believed at the back corner. Although I was confident the fence was inside my property line, I thought the corner was the metal fence post to the left of the the pin that is circled in red. The front of the property is longer than the back. I was unsure where the front corner was at, so couldn't really guess at the angle previously.

Looks like a hybrid. You'll have to let us know the *real* numbers. Also what you see different in the room it's in. How old was your old one? I can't seem to get more than 10 or 11 years out of mine. I have two. Mine and the apartment upstairs. I flush them and even change the anodes and it doesn't make a lick of difference in how long they last. I just did the upstairs apartment a few weeks ago. Old one started leaking at the weld for the bottom heating coil. 10 year warranty. Died at 11 years. I bought a used one on Marketplace. 4 year old $500 heater for $150. 50 gallons too.
