The big score is close to home. Probably will not finish it this year!
The fellow has 20 to 30 larger oak trees to have taken down, and a bunch of smaller stuff to cull. We hit one big one there last week....44 feet of straight trunk to the first branch!
It was cool to actually take home a load of BL!

It was awesome. Brad instructed my youngster in the finer points of hand splitting, discussed the characteristics of various wood species, and even brought a lump of cedar for us to split and season.

We spent a lot of time chatting. Made the trip worth while for sure.

That is so cool, share the knowledge and pass it on, it's great for the youth especially when it's your son. Sounds like buZZsaw BRAD is a trainer, that's how I like to think of myself, given the opportunity.

 

Went back and got the rest today. Someone had CSM the walnut as painted ends on the slab wood remnants i grabbed. I think its so cool some of the seemingly bizarre shapes BL "rounds" can be. Saved some to slice cookies from. Ms. buZZsaw's oldest daughter wants them for her garden. The brightest yellow BL ive ever cut/split. Doesnt show too well in the pics, but it was very noticeable.

Driving here in town today, saw a tree down on an exit ramp I think. Did a double take and said to the Mrs....hey thats black locust!

Was in and out pretty quick. Hate to leave wood behind...especially BL.

Pretty much everywhere ive traveled in the state ive seen BL.. Its not abundant and usually in little groves. Fairly common along highways and train tracks. Seems to grow in abandoned lots, commercial areas too. Check the next time your at work Dave.

 

I saw plenty of it around Manchester this past weekend when I was out there visiting with my BIL. Right along I-384 and the on/off ramps for route 83. I know I've seen a lot of it on route 2 as well, from Glastonbury eastwards.

 

Was it downed/cut wood or just trees? Daves not far from there. I did some work in Windham and traveled route 2. The exit i got off (13 i think) had a bunch of small BL blowovers. Too small for jo191145 so i brought the saw the next few trips. Joe informed me of a pile of BL farther up route 2. Too far for me, but if the itch strikes its on my radar.

Dang! All this talk of BL has my mania flaring up. Maybe ill go cut a load somewhere this week.

 

Black Locust has you guys all wound up; I am figuring in a month or so the entire state will be clear cut of all BL.
And I thought that being a crack addict was bad? Boy was I wrong!

 

These were all live trees I saw, although where there are live groves there surely must be dead fallen ones.

Shhhhh! Don't paint us all with such a broad brush. The mania has waned for me, now that I have a couple cords of it sleeping until 2025 or thereabouts. Although I can't say for sure the mania won't have me in its grips again if I come across an easy score of it

 

If I came across it I wouldn't say no. However I honestly would pass it on to BRAD.
I know that it is part of his bread and butter with some customers that really like it.

He has done a lot for me with scrounging wood and logs for the mill so it would be the least I could do.
I have no problem with Oak and other wood and he has helped me with getting plenty of that.

I will keep an eye out for it though.

 

The last two were easy and got me going moreso than "normal". Keep an eye out on CL & FBM for me!
