I finished up that one trunk from last time and cleaned up a lot of smalls headed toward where you cut last time. It had thawed enough to "excavate" some. When i finished i walked up to check out the last trunk and someone had very recently made a cut or two on it. They also cut down a couple medium sized trees (one BL) that got hung up. Very hasty felling attempt. Ill show you the stumps.
Change of plans had me hitting this score instead today. The last big trunk close to the road plus some tops, limb wood and storm clean up remnants that were buried. Bark came off everything. Again amazed at the trash i find. An empty bar oil bottle and a couple unopened beers. Both firsts for me. Someone else was cutting there. No clue what they were thinking based on this stump??? Maybe another PU of BL to scrounge. Still lots of oak.
Don’t drink that beer. I still remember as a little kid finding a can of Colt 45 buried in the leaves on a hot summer day That stump looks like a poor rendition of a mortise and tenon directional felling technique I saw on YouTube once. Never tried it myself.
I didnt. Opened & dumped them and threw the .10c in my retirement fund! The wood there ive been taking is all on the ground. Someone recently felled a few and cut up some smaller ones on the ground. Wondering if for firewood or project. Recall drinking an unopened beer that sat in a car for a day or two in the Summer! I was young & dumb. Now im just old!
People cutting down trees = not cool! This type of thing is what ruins it for others and makes the guy like yourself look bad.
Hmnn, just took a short atv ride on the state property abutting mine. Must be 1-2000 cord of dead White Oak standing there. If I needed wood and they fell I may be tempted to pull out some logs. Cutting them down is a whole nuther misdemeanor LOL I don’t think WO fells itself when dead until it’s past the point of usefulness. Just a shame to see all those trees wasted.
The woods behind my friends where i store wood had a dozen or so standing dead WO. Weve cut a few down but many left.
No. No real need to. Some of it is property that came from my family. Truth be told I have no reticence about hauling a downed tree or two off that. We told them when we sold it to them we would be keeping it neat. Wether they believed us or not I don’t care LOL Most of the white oaks are not on property we sold any time recently. Neighbor also has 400 acres witH quite a few WO dead on it. Both those properties are not something I would tread into lightly. Both the state of Ct and the neighbor hate people. If I really really wanted to the neighbor would probably grant permission. I’ve talked to him exactly once in 60 years Have quite a bit to deal with on my own property. Very few WO but still plenty of red that need chopping. It just pains me to watch them rot.
I understand about watching it rot and go to waste. Before I starting burning wood, I never gave it a 2nd thought, but my perspective has changed.
