Yesterday my elderly neighbor was cleaning out her basement and put out a couple long pieces of cherry which had been in her basement for 20+ years. I delimbed (seriously) and bucked them (again, not joking) and hit a few pieces with the MM. The highest reading was 9.2, and many were below 5%. In total about 1/64th of a cord, but I only had to walk across the street!

(She also put out four 20yo store-bought bundles, which of course I grabbed).

A mini score is still a score.

    Well done!

I won’t keep boring you with these micro-scores, but today I picked up some fully-seasoned maple from someone that is moving. Five minutes from the dog park so the pup got to socialize. Urban scrounging usually means small loads but lots of opportunities!

It’s hitting me that unfortunately it’s what I should be focused on right now. Things take so long to season where I am, and I’ve only been scrounging for a year. I’m stocked for Winters 2024-2026, but my real gap is next Winter. I’m going to aim for mid-tier green wood that seasons more quickly (e.g. doug fir) and all the seasoned stuff I can get my hands on. (That is, of course, until someone lists free black locust and I can’t control myself. :bug:)

You may want to put that wood outside to get that moisture level up. LOL
