I have been reminded that this is a “Family Friendly” site, so I will leave THAT, to your (Over Active) Imagination Doug
Another load of osage today with some questionable hackberry from my wife's co-worker. Did drop and limb another hedge, but forgot to take a picture.
I wouldn’t say you’re a chump and I wouldn’t say he is either, but seems kinda odd that he’d charge you anything as they’re gonna burn everything that’s not taken. On the other hand, maybe 10 bucks a tree keeps the riff raft off of his property Sounds like a good opportunity to gather a sizeable volume of firewood!
Looks like a beautiful area to be! I lived in the Pacific Northwest for a couple years as a child but have fond memories of the area.
Fortunately, “Volcano Hood” is Dormant, unlike her Sister, Saint Helens, which, literally blew her top back in 1980. Much more populated than St Helens, around here. Yeah, I do occasionally think about “ What Could Happen “, but as a truck driver, there are a lot of “Could Happens”, even just a quick trip, to the store, COULD, have a bad ending, just Enjoy Life, and deal with what you have to, If/When you have to There are a lot of Great and Beautiful places, but nowhere else that I would rather live Doug
Update: Another one loaded and another one dropped and limbed. Thats about all i want in a day. Had a helper today, always nice to have company. Coulda used a power lifter to load those rounds, but having father daughter time is pretty sweet too!
Those are nice sized rounds, they will split up nice too. That is exactly how how like to trim up the Osage I do. I use my Stihl pole saw to prune them & my pickaroon to drag them out of the way unless I am fortunate enough to have access to the skid loader & grapple. Bonus for the time with your daughter.
The weather and the watershed project is supposed to start in the spring so my time is limited on that particular chunk of property.
Update: Still cutting in the proposed watershed project. Two locust down today and ready for splitting. I'm guessing honey locust, but am not for sure. They didn't smell as strong as the black locust I've had before. No thorns though, which is nice. Cuts easier than the hedge for sure.
Good stuff, lots of BTU’s, usually splits well & no thorns !!! I 2nd what Chvymn99 said, definitely Honey Locust. I your area it may be ready to burn by the fall of ‘24 depending on your split size. Around here it’s 3 year minimum.
