Finished my hoarding season with a final load of maple. Bucked, chopped and stacked my final half cord by noon. 14 cords in all, including my stash(not pictured). 9+1/2 cords for sale, all hardwoods. A good selection this year of birch, maple, dogwood, oak, madrona and apple. All craigslist stuff with one delivery from a tree company. Didn't have to buck as much this year and survived a sweet gum noodle fest. Glad to be done and moving on to other hobbies for a while. Oh yes and the new Lopi large flush hybrid wood burning insert. Had it installed as I was stacking. Going from an open fireplace, this thing really pumps the heat. Feels like Christmas. Till I start again in September, happy hoarding.
Some nice looking stacks JH! Bet your glad to be done...but what if a good score comes your way? Cant say no to good wood. We're hoarders after all. Going from a fireplace to an insert is like night and day. Wood usage will be greatly reduced. Enjoy it.
Holy crap I’m in Seattle, and I think I recognize your stacks and green house from your CL ads. Were you “topping” your stacks with black locust? I think I reached out to you and complimented the honesty of your ads! Was that you?
Ya, that's me. Haha. Topped them with oak, madrona and apple this year. Good to talk to you again and welcome to the forum.
Thanks! That’s really funny. Did you get today’s maple from Lynnwood? There was a post that referenced “white wood” today and some of it looked like maple from a distance.
No. Just saw that though, probably cotton wood. Got mine from an OfferUp ad from a few days ago in north Seattle. He was nice enough to hold it for me until today. Little bit of bucking and some real nice chopping rounds. What part of Seattle are you in?
I live in Capitol Hill, but bring all our wood to our cabin in the San Juans. That’s where I am now… brought a load of oak (from Greenlake neighborhood a couple weeks ago…maybe you saw it) up yesterday. I’m well-stocked for Winter 2024 and beyond, but I might panic and buy a cord from you for next winter. Our property here is cold and wet and shady, so things take forever to season.
Excellent Juniper Hill You will love the new heater especially when the real cold sets in next winter.
It's 27 this morning but is supposed to warm up to mid thirties at night and 50s during the day. Down to my last quarter cord of seasoned wood. Definitely something to look forward to next winter
Yeah. When I was a yooper, it was always mid to late April. Here? Well I can't forget that 20"+ we got toward the end of March. Still, when it comes late it doesn't stay very long and I don't have to go to work, so maybe next week or week after.
Welcome aboard to both of you in case I missed you earlier! I'm in Lakewood/Tacoma area. Good to see some local (kinda) folks! How far would you go for a scrounge?
Hey, thanks! I try to keep it to 20-30 minute drives, mostly because I can only handle 3/4 cord at a time and very limited storage space. I wouldn’t go much past SeaTac unless it was something amazing. How about you?
