First outing for my new to me MS400. Landlord had some trees taken down and these have been sitting there since October. Last of a big log deck. I ask and he refuses. They dont have the capability to cut big wood. I asked the other day and got a yes. (splits not my work) IMG_0623.JPG IMG_0625.JPG Kicked out some serious sawdust. Bark box muffler made my fillings rattle and intestines vibrate! IMG_0626.JPG Does a 400 get poor "gas mileage"? Ran out before i finished. That really surprised me. IMG_0627.JPG
Impressed with the saw and BB muffler. It is loud. Has an "old time" chain saw sound to it.

My understanding is muffler modded and re tuned they burn as much fuel as a 460. My buddy Roger's 400 is stock and it burns what my stock 046 does. Good cutting saws though. I like his for sure. Nice logs there too.

Ya know, them would have been some really nice mill logs...

Them rounds will make a lot of nice looking firewood! You have to share the wood with the landlord or is it all yours?

Too big for his mill...20" capacity. Even then no way to move them. Landlord gets it all. Deal he has with his son friend. He processes it and gets half. We had the same deal once on a couple oak blowdowns a few years back.

Incredible log. The other day, I noticed my ported 362 was sure drinking gas. Worse than my 400.

Yours is stock Steve? How does it compare with the 462 for gas usage?

Might be my eyes, or the picture, but those chips look a little “dusty”… if the chain was less than ideally sharp, that could explain a thirsty saw, yes?

It was plenty sharp. Freshly sharpened prior to use. Touched it up tonight as a matter of fact.

Less than optimal chain will surely kill fuel mileage.

You guys could easily rip a log like that in half with a saw, then it could fit in the mill. That one was a dandy! The way everything is going, I might mill some more oak just to have it.
