Has anyone noticed if the rapidly rising gas prices have affected bar oil yet? Maybe good time to grab some. Think i paid $12ish/gallon at big box store couple months ago. Had a gift card there otherwise id go to TSC.

Yesterday, menards and a couple farm stores were in the $8-9 range for store brands, plenty available. Stihl was maybe closer to $20 at them. And a stihl dealer was around the $14-15 mark I think. Didn’t really pay much attention at the dealer, just went in to see what was on the used rack.

Bar oil at a locally owned / employee owned discount store was 10.99 a gallon on sale, this is 1.00 over last yrs price of 9.99 on sale, so at this point, not too bad. But, gas is 4.29 a gallon.

It’s good that I don’t use my saws a lot anymore. I’ve still got a couple gallons of bar oil that I’ve been sitting on for over a year now, bought when they were a lot cheaper. It might be wise to bank on the idea that it’s going to continue to go up in cost and that buying more now will save me money in the long run.

    Buy it now.
I can’t see price going down anytime soon.

I’ll probably grab another 2-3 next time I’m in town. I probably use 2 gallons a year, kinda stocked up last time when we had a thread going about bar oil shortage

Stopped at TSC today and bought four gallons at $10.99 each plus tax. They rang up at 11.99 and luckily i caught it. Nearly six gallons on hand now. Ill check on occasion to see if it goes up. Knowing my luck there will be a sale next time. Oh well, at least it wont go bad. I figure i go through a gallon in three months.

Maybe we'll start a bar oil hoarding thread?

I don't think anything's gonna be cheaper anytime soon. I should get 2-3 cases of it while it's available and not $20.00 ish per gallon. I go thru a fair amount.

I was at the saw shop today and left empty handed. I should have at least bought a few gallons of bar oil, some mix and chains.

I stopped at an Ace hardware store today and picked up 2 gallons of Stihl bar oil, the stuff in the red container. It was just under $15 per gallon. Their Stihl premium bar oil was 20+.

    Only makes sense.

I have to question peoples ability to use common sense and logic who assume firewood will stay the same price while every other heating source goes up. Even aside from going up because other heating sources went up, they need that fuel to cut, buck, split and deliver the firewood.

They're directly related to each other and affected by each other. The only real way to save is to do all the work and process your own wood. Do the work or spend the money.

Around here competition keeps the prices down. But I have not seen any for $45 this year.
