Im lucky here. There is one station that has had off-road diesel fuel fir $2.19 a gallon 6 years now. I looked 3 weeks ago and still $2.19. I fill a 50 gallon tank every 1- 2 years there. Currently setting on 40 +/- plus 10 in the tractor. Me thinks I should make a couple 5 gallon can runs to top off the bulk tank.

Not when you factor in the lesser "fuel mileage" of the gas tractor.
We still have a pretty nice Case 470 at work...I think its going up on the block sometime soon though...JD5100E took its place.

I have thought of getting a 100 gallon or so transfer tank to give me the ability to buy at a low price and store. I have a wheelable 35 gallon caddy I use now. Gas wouldn't keep long with the ethanol, but I think diesel would.

Problem is at least here in MA you need to get tanks inspected and tagged yearly by the Fire Department. Kind of eats up any savings and is a pain to do. I guess I could get the tank, keep it at my house and fill it with 5 gallon jugs. I think even the caddy is supposed to get tagged and inspected.

Outside of Beverly Ohio I have seen people filling up a 55 gallon food grade barrel with off-road diesel. It was not secured, just sitting on a pallet butted up to the tail gate of the pick up. Its a whole different world.

The 470 Case is a diesel but it’s very easy on fuel
Yesterday I filled my fuel barrel and diesel was 3.89,there’s a Love travel center here and gas 4.09,diesel 5.28

Diesel here is $5/gallon. Gas isn't much behind. I'm sure those prices will change by tonight. I'm seeing $7-$8/gallon in CA

In mass you can transport up to 21 gallons in approved can(s). 21 up to 110 needs to be in a transfer tank that is inspected every two years. Costs 50$, Inspection is done at the local fire station.

You are correct. My town website says the same. We used to go for our 3/4 ton with 100 gallon tank. I know they were very picky and expected the tank to be near new each time. Those tanks can easily be $500-$1000.

Not sure if you've dealt with many Fire Departments, its a real hassle sometimes.

I routinely take 2 - plastic 55 gallon drums to the fuel depot, fill with E-10 gas & haul home for mowers, Gator & the tractor. Strap them into the back of my pickup. I also take 35 gallon plastic barrel for premium for the chainsaw mix.

I think it'll be another year of waiting on the tractor purchase; don't feel like spending $6 a gallon for diesel.

    Thanks, joe.

You should have no problems keeping E-10 gas in a transfer tank. My Dad & brother both fill 500 gallon barrels with gas & have never had any problems with it going bad. The barrels are topped off/filled usually twice a year. The barrels are on planks setting out in the elements 24-7/365.

I do on a pretty regular basis. With over 30 transfer tanks in the fleet that get moved around from truck to truck depending on the job. If a tank is ratty looking it gets degreased, pressure washed, wire wheeled if needed and a good coat of quality paint.

The guys in Leominster are great to deal with.

Yeah that's fine. Just the contrast between areas is interesting. However not securing a load of 55 gallons of fuel going down the highway is asking for trouble.

If you used 55 gallon drums in MA you'd probably end up in jail with fines to pay.

Not if you store it properly, and are discrete.
If you have an oil tank,.you are allowed so many gallons on hand in your home. And if you bring it home in jerry cans....

We have a 100G diesel tank in our pick up truck at work in MA, they told us we didnt need an inspection sticker annually anymore.

Out of curiosity who is “they”. Does the truck go out on public roads?
