Havent been down here in a while. Wanted to preburn some calories before super bowl food. Split for a couple hours and pulled a wheelbarrow full out. Lightly snowing and no wind made for a peaceful setting. Bullets found in a round while splitting. Landlords kids used to shoot down there years ago.
Is that an 25" fiskars in the pic? If so what do you think of it compared to the 36"? I've been taking down some dead ash and cherry lately. Fiskars makes short work of it.
It is the X25. I like it better. My first Fiskars ax was an X25. Lost it roadside. Had a gifted X27 as a reserve. Works good, but was so used to the shorter handled X25 i found my self choking up on the handle. Recently got a new X25. Works great on this ash.
I'm planning on picking up an x25 for my daughter. I'll have to spend some time on it and see what I think. I've always used the x27 but being short 5'8 maybe I'll like the shorter handle.
when i first got it i didnt like the shorter handlebut once i got accustomed to using it, i dont think ill use a "normal" length ax again or without choking up on it. I even choke up on the Isocore
Hit the woods for a couple hours. Dropped a couple small trees and a bigger one. Two trees left in that area but 18" DBH so a bigger saw needed. Im leaving the other as it may still be alive. Always metal somewhere, but 15' up the trunk? Old deer stand mount? Nice when you can see it before cutting. Bucked the two smaller trees. Left the other for a bigger saw. Split for an hour. X25 loves splitting ash There's one behind my shed ill fell this weekend.
I know, right?! If some jamoke can drag railroad ties back there into the woods, I see so reason why he couldn't strong-arm a couple of 8 footers out two at a time by himself. buZZsaw BRAD is definitely sandbagging in his old age.
Didn't see those. Maybe he sits on those when he is taking a break. I know in a previous post he questioned getting them out , not sure if tractor and/or log arch would have been an option. Plus he needs wood to fill his racks that support the CAD so I get it.
Google Image Result for https://thumbs.gfycat.com/LastingSadKingfisher-size_restricted.gif Probably my landlords degenerate kids years back. Lots of crap dumped there. At least a couple hundred yards into the woods. They used to shoot there too as its right where i cut into those bullets. Hard enough to push a wheelbarrow full of splits outlet alone carry a log.
Neighbor not home so i dropped the dead ash behind the shed today. Ant damage and center rot made it let go pretty quick. Itll be CSS right there. Not that often a tree can be felled into your PA area. Top landed on a plastic pallet.
Looks like you got that one just in time. Another year or two and it would've been completely soft inside, and not worth the trouble. There's probably still some good meat there in the middle of the trunk anyway. That hillside looks treacherous with all the rocks! I'd hate to be working there and fall down Is that an old quarry site or just a natural feature from a collapsed rock cliff above?
Our back yard...hillside. Yard is 15" wide then goes up at a 45* rocky slope. Yes it was tricky to cut from. Ive done it before a few times. I was originally going to fell it parallel to the hid but glad i didnt. The top 25' broke off as the tree went down. I wasnt expecting the ant damage. The meat is pretty good for the most part. Ive been watching it deteriorate over the last couple years and should felled it then.
