"Moderation is probably the best thing, along with exercise if you want to lose weight and generally be healthier".

This person pretty much said it right there.

I did keto for a couple years when I was stuck to a desk for too much of my time, I lost 40 ponds at 41 years old. I'm now much more active for work so not needing the "diet" as much.
The main thing I learned from my experience is that we eat way too much high carb "filler" foods, / junk foods.
Thinking of food as "fuel" instead of pleasure or recreation will help us make better decisions.

I'm now on what I call a"modified keto diet" it's basically low carb, high fat (aka LCHF diet), it works for me, (to the degree that I adhere to it).

We eat only "real food" in our family, all from scratch, no packaged or pre- prepared foods at all, we eat LOTS of high fat meat, fresh raw cows milk, fresh eggs, and all the other things the establishment tells us will kill you!

Educate yourself on health and nutrition, and be serious about what you "dump" into your body, poor diet is no joke, it WILL kill you, (and make you fat, weak, sick, ugly, and grouchy in the process).

Possible side effects of proper diet / nutrition are things like: les Dr visits and the resultant bills, more strength, more energy, lest chronic pain, better sleep, reduced risk of disease, more clear thinking, fewer degistive issues, better immune system, better attitudes and relationships..........

    Good luck!

Last June I did a 30 day challenge. It included 100 pushups a day, absolutely zero refined sugar, and I cut back on my beer intake. I lost 15 pounds

I had some medical problems (Type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure) in June of 2020 and needed to lose weight and limit carbs. I ate pretty decently before, no binges, no large amounts of junk etc. and ran/walked for exercise on and off over the last 10 years.

I eliminated the bread from my lunch sandwiches, cut out the bag of chips and the packaged cake type snack, and the granola bar I had for a snack. Replaced them with almonds, peanuts, and berries. My mid-day carb intake went from 140 to less than 20.

Breakfast is an apple and low carb low cal Greek yogurt. I eat potatoes and pasta rarely and sparingly for dinner-have bun less cheeseburgers a couple of times a week, chicken one night, pork another, with either a small portion of sweet potato fries or some vegetables or a lettuce-based salad. I don't gorge myself but have very generous portions of the meats, cheeses, and eggs.

I still have 2 pancakes for Sunday breakfast, and 2 beers Saturday night. I rarely eat out (maybe 6 times in the last 2 years) so when I do I '"cheat"-eat whatever I want. I also walk 3-4 miles 5-6 days a week.

I lost 20 pounds when I first had the medical issues-from 208 to 188. I have lost another 20 intentionally since I changed my diet. My blood sugar went from being seriously high to "high normal"-the same for the blood pressure. My cholesterol was and remains good. It isn't fun but I didn't do it for vanity-it's a change I had to make.

That is awesome, my hats off to anyone with that kind of commitment. That is what I need , I hope I can get focused and stay with it. It’s so hard to be different, there is food everywhere you go and it always the wrong kind of food.

I am kind of a homebody, but I hear what you are saying about the wrong food being everywhere. It is really hard during deer season-seemed like I ate lots of Little Debbies, candy bars, donuts, etc. Now it is the almonds and nuts, deer jerky, deer sausage and cheese.
I let myself go a bit when I eat out, or during the holidays. I think the key is to be disciplined in your day in day out routine-weekday breakfast, lunch at work, and most dinners. I can imagine this would be much harder to do if I traveled extensively or didn't have regular habits-work 5 days a week, same bedtime/wake up, outdoor work on the weekends (wood cutting, lawn care, etc.)
I also work in a school where I can walk a 2/3 mile circuit in the hallways during bad weather-it's a small school district but 3 buildings are connected-makes it easy to work out in bad weather.

I just started the Keto thing. Only 1 week in and so far it’s not bad. In a nut shell you are switching your body to burn fat and not sugar as fuel. Just like any diet if you are putting more fuel in than you are using it gets stored , so you can’t just eat as much as you want. What you do have to be careful of is the combination of fat and carbs really messes up the body so you kinda have to pick one and roll with it. And another thing I have seen , we are on a supervised diet so we have to take our blood sugar and ketones daily and enter them into an app. Most people on keto don’t stay in ketoses because they aren’t checking their blood.

Moderation and low carb for me ; not weight issues but sugar issues to control.

It is not easy to start but once you get rolling for a couple weeks it gets easier.
I do get plenty of exercise with working my jobs and stay very active out of work so I get more than my fair share of exercise without doing the gym thing.

    Slow and steady.

It is more about life style than it is about diets. a healthy life style helps you maintain your weight, but if you want to loose weight, you need to figure out how many calories you are taking in each day, then drop 500 calories each day from that. That can come from cutting back on intake and or exercise. You can anticipate a one to two lb loss per week from that routein. Once you hit a hard spot, you do the same thing again. So, a 3000 calorie diet will go to 2500, then 2500, then to 2000 but don't go under 1500 cal. diet. Make sure you intake is balanced. Purge the house of too temping food. I have lost huge amounts of food only to gain it back due to lack of self control and depression and physical disability.

I am an unintentional yo-yo and lazy dieter. Mama Bear pretty well lives at the camper from May to early October and I am left without adult supervision at home. In the winter she comes home and makes good stuff and I gain, when she is gone I lose. I out of pure it's only me why would I make a meal lazy in summer eat lots of eggs, fried/hard boiled/scrambled, toss a burger/steak/chop on the grill, and pb&j along with drinking a lot more water. I think it is a lowering of both carbs and total calories and being more active but the last 4 summers I have lost 15-25 pounds, all of which is what winter adds to me. I do notice the older I get the longer it takes for results but I also do not have my nicotine that I had in my youth to help if a food craving came along.

I started my diet this week so far so good I guess. Been doing a combination of fasting to lunch time and drinking a protein shake and then a low carb dinner. I have cut out all sweets, soda, and bread. It’s rough to do but I realize if I’m going to want to be healthy and be able to hunt , fish and cut firewood, I got to make a change. I appreciate you guys commenting on this subject. I’m not a Facebook junkie and this is really only site I enjoy being on.

You know Perry, im in the same boat. Gotta loose it.
For the last few days, perhaps since the start of this thread, ive been wondering if we start a pm, with folks who want to work together as it be?
If I know I will be providing a little accountability, daily, and can share stories with, and perhaps pray with/for us, maybe a few of us could link arms and walk in step for a while.
If I can get my rear in gear, I'll need 2 months or more to loose what I want to. I realize some of us may go longer, and have more critical issues.
But, im good to join with a few others, to be supportive, prayerful, or encouraging.

I like a good challenge...that motivates me the most. We could do an unofficial "biggest loser" honest pictures of our scales with weekly weigh ins.

I'd like to post my plan, starting gravitational pull, then daily successes and failures. I will add reasonings, but I wont judge what you do to succeed. I will read about different ideas though, for my own good.
I have found that legalism doesnt work well for dieting or fasting: whereas success begets more success.
Gluttony is still guttony, weather big or small, extending over a few years or even decades.
If the point is to encourage eachother, that will happen if we dont get too side tracked into other conversations (the main reason I quit watching so many threads here).

    Three of us so far.

Drink as much water as you can as well. No calories in water and it helps you feel fuller, and helps cleanse your body of all sorts of junk.

I weighed myself yesterday and saw that I'm the heaviest I've ever been :( Getting older sucks.
I work outdoors spring through fall then I'm off Dec-March. Lots of time sitting on my azz reading forums lol. I've also been eating like crap, too much pizza.

Time to get back on the low carb train. I like the paleo diet. I did keto for a month a few years ago and that had good results, IIRC I dropped 15#s but carb counting is a PITA. I think I need to portion control, lower caloric and carb intake, and no snacking.

My target weight is around 180, im at 203 right now. I was around 195 at Christmas lol.

Sounds like you enjoyed the holiday season.
You know what to do , start by cutting out some carbs ; and yeah that pizza doesn't help! I know that it is good but not a good diet food.
Weight is not my issue but carbs are so I can relate to the low carb thing.
