Everything finally lined up for us to use a boom truck for 2 different tree jobs.
We finished taking down a tall big pecan tree we worked on a few months ago.
Had 1/2 the tree left... 0226220824.jpg
Gittin' started. We carried 5 saws with us. Echo 2511T, MS18 and Husky 55 were used on this job in the basket. 0226220843.jpg
    0226220845.jpg 0226220858a.jpg
Echo 2511T worked great for trimming
    0226220844b.jpg 0226220908a.jpg
MS 180 dropping some nice logs
    0226220910.jpg
Husky 55 was used for anything over 12-14" dia 0226220900.jpg
Starting on some more tall stems 0226220957.jpg
    Husky again 0226221004.jpg
Echo for the top drop 0226221016a.jpg
Almost maxed out on boom length... 0226221012.jpg
MS 180 cutting the bottom wedge 0226221018.jpg
Husky 55 finished of the last stem 0226221024.jpg 0226221024a.jpg
The stump will be taken down later. They feel a lot safer now 0226221031.jpg
Got another trailer load of wood...there is 2 short pieces of oak from the next job on here
    0226221603.jpg 0226221603a_HDR.jpg
We started on this tree about 8:30, 11:00 we were done and moved to our church, for the next part of the fun day.
We had a dying oak, a big sweet gum and 2 spars to take down...all 5 saws were used on this job, added the XS029BB and the MS461 - 28" bar
The oak had a big limb over the security light and line feeding it 0226221123.jpg
Almost to the church roof 0226221125.jpg
Had a young man in the basket with me to help handle the chunks... 0226221128.jpg

    Taking down the limbs... 0226221218.jpg
The young man did a good job. He finally decided we were as high as he wanted to go... 0226221225.jpg 0226221230a.jpg
His dad got in the basket after a water and gas break... 0226221301.jpg
A little off the top, please... 0226221316a.jpg

Starting on the main stem...Husky 55 dropped this chunk... 0226221348.jpg
Needed the grunt of the XS029BB now 0226221350.jpg
    XS029BB - 20" bar buried in the trunk 0226221355.jpg
Got it down to manageable size, truck work done 0226221408.jpg
Another member brought his JD tractor and grapple, helped with the clean up. Stump cut off... 0226221544_HDR.jpg

Some impressive work Jeff. Looks like fun. You always wanted to be closer to God!  Did you have an oxygen tank with you being up that high? :D
I like the boom truck better. The generic trailer ones around here only go 35' or so.

Not having cut on high before, would it have been easy to buck to length from up there? Just thinking about dropping 4' pieces just to have to buck them on the ground later....

Nice work Jeff. Will you keep the sweet gum?
Don’t think I’ve ever seen a bucket truck with a crane and basket. I like it. I can envision all the OSHA and safety officers I’ve dealt with writhing on the ground in despair. I like it.

We had a good group of guys from church helping. And the truck operator was very smooth.
It was almost maxed here. Numbers on the boom that I can see are 53, and it's past that. I know it looked like a few seconds for a piece to hit the ground...

It's easier to measure and cut straight on the ground, plus less pieces to pick up. Time was a concern as well. Needed to get both jobs done while we had the truck.

Pecan is good wood for cooking/smoking or heat.
Didn't get much oak. Some limb wood and 1 trunk section. Might go back and get another section if we get desperate for wood...lol...lot of punky on the bottom trunk and high gas $$$
