I don't think that's a bad price for what your getting. Anywhere in the mountains in NH you would pay a bit more and get a little less. Enjoy!
Southern Indiana is known as covered bridge country and very pretty when the leaves change. I'll be there a bit after that peak season, but it should allow for comfortable nights in front of the fireplace. Stoves are great, but an open hearth can't be beat for enjoyment. I spoke to a woman in French Lick (Larry Bird's hometown), and she proceeded to tell me that guests can't smoke anywhere on the property, that the wood stove is not to be used as guests don't know how to operate one, and about a dozen other mandates. No Wi-Fi, hot tub, television, or other amenities either. She was asking $200 a night and was very sure of the value provided. Eck! What a nightmare that would have been dealing with a nosy, bossy property manager. I about hung up on her so I didn't have to listen to any more dribble.
Ahhhhh. Brown County. Not too far from me. Downtown Nashville will be a frigging zoo just be warned. Be prepared to park and walk. It is a very nice area. Not a lot of covered bridges there but maybe a few. Parke county about an hr nw from there is the bridge mecca and equally as crowded during peak times with much less lodging. Enjoy your time off. If you are going in November cross check your dates with our gun season and bring orange hats if you leave the state park woods into Hoosier national forest which is a war zone on opening weekend. People line the fences down there.
Parke county is a zoo the first couple weeks of October. Lived here my whole life. The Bridge festival used to have a lot of hand-made stuff...now it's pretty much one big yard sale. Brown County is nice.
Going November 10th - 14th. Figured it would slow down given the leaves are largely gone. I will check out Parke County...thanks for the tip.
At the cabin...too warm last night for proper drafting...supplied oak is not seasoned, so I'm borrowing an axe from the property manager...if split small enough, all wood burns ok
No smoke detectors. I could see smoke spilling over the mantle. It's going to be 25 here in central indiana. I'm blessed to have time off and spend it in the woods.
