With all this talk and hype about the Stihl MS400 its been on my next saw list for the last few months. Friend of mine who fixes and flips OPE (mostly chain saws) calls me and has access to a new one below MSRP. I immediately say yes and he calls me that night saying it fell though.
A month ago i found a barely used one on FBM with a lot of extras too. Lock in the price. The guy becomes a ghost and deletes listing.
Tuesday night he relists the saw and i respond saying ill take it. He wasnt a quick replier on FB so im wondering if its too good to be true. Finally he commits and met him late this afternoon. IMG_0529.JPG
    Some nice extras:
West coast full wrap handle, 24" Tsunami lightweight bar, bark box muffler, double dawgs, bottom tank plate protector. IMG_0530.JPG IMG_0527.JPG IMG_0524.JPG IMG_0525.JPG For $850 i thought i did good! New (stock) with tax is close to a grand

With all the extras that seems like a pretty good deal. Too bad you couldn’t get him to throw in a blankie also! :rofl:

:thumbs: yep, you got a good deal. Full wrap version is more, and nice additions with skid plate and muffler. It will be loud, no hiding now. No blankie needed since it's not solid orange...

Nice grab. Looking forward to a review.

interesting clutch cover. What’s the opening for just behind the dogs?
Looks like you could mount a bow bar on that saw

I was wondering if anyone would catch that. I have trouble remembering the two names for them, let alone trying trying to pronounce them.

Brad, why did the seller sell?

EDIT: And did you say it's the same guy who went incognito before? Did he say why?

He liked using bigger saws is my guess. Younger "kid" no more than 30. Ill quote from his FBM listing about the saw.

"Up for sale is my ms400 chainsaw.saw runs good. It's almost new. I was going to sell it decided not to but I still haven't touched it been using my 661 for everything instead so it's time for this saw to go.

He also had a Husky 592 which is the same cc as a 661. He was clearing a lot for his home or a home.

When he reneged on the first sale he was using the money for "another saw project" I think he spent too much on saws and couldnt decide what he wanted. Just a guess though.
His loss my gain. Gotta find some big wood to put it in.

Yep sounds like a young kid with a deep trust fund and big ego. I can just picture his shiny new, lifted and blinged out 4dr diesel pickup.
Anyway…. When he gets tired of slinging around the new biggest and bestest saws and decides to unload the 592 at a similar savings you let me know

When we met he was driving a 15-20yr old Mercury Mountaineer.

I have his number and will text about the 592. He is a 2+ hour round trip from me in Massachusetts. I had to be near there by coincidence so i set it up.

I’m surprised about the mountaineer. And was mostly just joking about the 592. Everybody else is getting new saws and now my CAD is flaring up. Plus I got a tip about a potential oak (extremely rare for me) score that sounds like it could be pretty sizable. If it happens I can easily (in my mind) justify a saw purchase. I have my eye on a couple older huskies, but they are 5 hours away in a saw shop. 257, 262,272.

If you are considering a 262 M2theB just restored one for my friend who i honestly dont think will use it. My friend acquired another smaller saw new and doesnt cut a lot of wood. He inherited the 262 and i offered and paid to have it fixed since he lets me store wood there.

What big saw would you get? Wont the 181 cut big wood or is it just a CAD thing?

181 is working fine and I have a 32” on it. I also have a 288 project I need to get finished someday. So I guess it’s mostly just a CAD thing. No idea how big or how much oak there will be if it happens

a brandy new 572 would be really cool though:emb:

You mean the concave curve on the Wesco cover? After studying the bigger cover my conclusion its for better chip dispersion. Being softwoods are primarily cut with it a lot of chips are generated. Just my 2c

No concerns about the fuel as its not FI as commonly mistaken. I knew someone would get a kick out of tsunami
Supposedly they're coming out with a better, lighter bar for 2022
