Stacking duties have commenced today, I have around 12-14 full cord to do. By the end of the evening I'll have 3 in the bag, I've been putting the boys to work hauling the wood from the splitting area to the stacks......stay tuned for more pics! I'm gonna try something different this year for the top of my stacks before I cover them........ Puttin the boys to work on the big oak pile.... Starting the puzzle...... Cross stitching every 8'......JENGA-STYLE.....lol The chill in the air at night lately has me getting excited for burning season!!
That split 6 up from the bottom and four over to the right on the east side of your pile needs raised 8 degrees or you'll risk that stack falling over. Nice work brother.
Looking good Scotty! Is the cube accessible from all sides, or do you have a LIFO/FIFO system to get to the wood?
Looks like paradise, Scotty. I find myself wishing for burning season, but then I remember last winter
Blue, it's accessible from all sides but I'll be using the portion of the middle of the cube this year.....I'd did a double row of crossed tied pieces to keep the rest of the stack stable where I'll be going in come October.... The row of cherry I'm pointing at in the pic is where I'll be tapping into the stacks this season, I'll be working my way to the left. That is three year seasoned wood all but a small bit of the cherry there....The wood to the right is for 4 and 5 years down the road.....almost all oak!
That was a impressive pile there Scotty......Sure makes things go faster when you have free laborers like that too..
lol....oh trust me they are expecting a paycheck once the pile has been moved.......lol. They are great kids and I'm very proud of them working together. My oldest son has autism and for all he's been through he does a great job moving that firewood for me with little to no prompting, I think he's getting excited to use the stove and fireplace soon.....lol
Scotty, nice that you have some family "volunteers" stacks look really impressive. Griz, Yes I remember last winter all to well. Started out bad and lasted all together too long. I did end up getting a real stove and a geni. But then I fell and haven't recovered enough to be able to do much of anything. Cold now, fire going. Not a good sign.
I was gonna say, I don't see much in that heap besides Red and White. I'm loading future stacks with mostly Red Oak starting this year...don't need a lot of quick-dry since I'm getting a couple or more years ahead. But I'll be stacking my share of White Ash also, when the friggin' bug gets here...
To stabilize the stack, so you can go in anywhere? How did your cat lose his ear....got too close to a running saw?
Bingo! Plus that cross - stitched row every 6-8' helps keep the stack stable as it dries. My "cube " is growing longer and wider this year.......need all the stability that I can muster up!
Scott. Enjoy those boys being there to help and yes, it is good to pay them for doing it. Handling money is necessary training too. However, all too quickly you will suddenly find them gone! It really does happen fast. Then you'll have grandkids and that can be fun too.
