2014. Made it for my nephews wedding along with a white birch arch. Instead of bringing them back home for no reason I sold them to the venue for their outdoor weddings. In New Hampshire now.

Red cedar smells good in small doses...
When dad had his mill in the early '80s, it didn't take much to get overpowering. We had some BIG reds down here. Biggest he cut was 36" dia. He found a horseshoe in that log. Lucky, he noticed it had grown different in that spot, cut it out with an axe...

I concur. If I’m not mistaken cedar sawdust is toxic to some animals. I had truckloads of it when I milled the siding for my house. Thought it would be nice bedding material for small animals. Seems it’s not. I think cedar shavings are used tho.
Milling those boards inside the basement during winter kicked my butt :) also learned about offGassing and oxygen while burning them all in an old pot belly stove,,,BOOM lol Never open that door while they’re still burning.

When i bring kindling bundles of it in the house to dry (stored downstairs) she complains about the smell. It was only noticeable for a few days and smelled better than a litter box IMO!

I know growing up we would get Cedar shavings for small animals instead of pine. It helped control the smell. Not sure if they are poisonous to animals but they all survived OK

We can get some big cedars around here...there's a monster or 2 close to the
station, I'll try to get a pic.

I use pine shavings in my chicken nesting boxes cause I've read cedar is bad for chickens. I didn't check into that but so much...pine works fine. Will put cedar in the dog house to help with smell, and I think (do not have much proof/ documentation) that cedar helps with ticks and fleas.

Cedar closets help prevent moth damage so i imagine it would work for that.

Shavings are better, sawdust is a lot finer and can cause respiratory problems

I don't know about the red cedars but I can say from an unfortunate experience that Northern White cedar is EXTREMELY poisonous to baby chickens.

I didn't have any pine shavings like I usually use, but my dad had NWC shavings, so I put that down for bedding with new chicks...big mistake, I lost 4 of 16 chicks in 10 days. After a quick search I saw that some people had issues with cedar, so I switched to straw, and the next day saw immediate improvement in the surviving birds.

Live and learn...unless you are a baby chicken...

Well buzz-saw & I met up and loaded the logs. IMG_0515.JPG IMG_0516.JPG IMG_0517.JPG The bigger trunk had insect damage so the first several feet were no good. I may go back and buck it for kindling stock. Limb wood to become kindling. IMG_0514.JPG IMG_0518.JPG
A thread will be posted when they get milled.

Hopefully it looks good all the way through.

Might be a little while before we can get to the mill, looks like more bad weather which means more mud when it thaws.
Either the ground has to be frozen, or it needs to dry out, so the yard doesn't get torn up too bad.

Looks like we will be hoarding firewood until that happens.
