Dad had a few trees that needed to be removed and I had been putting it off because I was busy at work and riding my bike. Sorry I have not been around much lately, this is why! We have had some big storms and mum was worried that the trees would fall and damage some of there buildings and vehicles, so I took this week off and went down to mum and dad’s to cull some trees. A few tools for the day. Before. After. Before. After. The view from up the tree. My little 550 got a workout. Chino checking on my work. They were beautiful looking trees, it’s a shame that they had to go.
Geeze leoht, you need more tools! Good on you for helping your dad. Say, I could use some help around here.
He could do some serious training for an Iron Man on that trip! Swimming, Biking, and Running. He would be in phenomenal shape by the time he got to your place Dennis!
I need more than a week off to go back to America! Next time I come I want to spend a couple of months up there. I will certainly come by and give you some help.
You should do it Backwoods Savage! Beautiful country and great people! But you need to be boots on the ground for at least a month...obviously you won't see everything but you'll have time to enjoy some stuff after you get over the jetlag.
If this covid scare ever wears off, I'd like to go if possible. I have never had the urge to visit other countries except for Canada but I've been thinking about Australia for some time now as I have a couple good friends there. Had another but they moved out.
Monday night when all the trees were safely on the ground and limbed up I grabbed my old trusty maul and went to start splitting, the first block I worked on was incredibly hard so I tried another then another. The whole lot was twisted grains and knots. So Tuesday morning this happened. First time using a hydraulic splitter in the Southern Hemisphere! I learnt from Backwoods Savage how to split wood the correct way. Look at the nasty grain.
I've been to both. Lots in Canada I didn't see, but I'd choose Oz again. Obviously more of an undertaking and $$, but very much worth it. I'm not quite sure what they have going on politically and covid wise now, definitely something to consider. They have (well had back in 1999) a very good transportation system between busses and trains, and tour type experiences/travel if you go Outback. You can even stay in hostels...that may make you young again! Mant of them are co-ed rooms, I was quite surprised...European females are not as shy as you might expect..... I'll just stop now..... Sorry leoht for starting to derail your thread....but oh the memories....
Reminds me of pictures of what we have locally called Sycamore, which also has a reputation of not splitting very nice. I've never processed any and I'm glad of that.
Congratilations leoht on the new splitter. Looks good and you can even use it the right way! But that is a nasty way to get started using it. That had to be some very tough stuff. Maybe you could demo that at our next GTG.
