If you knew what people in New York pay for school & property taxes, you'd understand. NY is #1 on overall tax burden. Wyoming is #48. Average house in NY costs $371,880....Wyoming $272,000.

    Well now
After an absolutely gorgeous day last Saturday , with near spring like temps "near 60 F" This week has been so so.
Now the changes are coming.....Winter is back with a vengeance.......

The S word is being tossed about....and cold weather and possible temps in the teens F at night.

Getting late in the season for real major winter weather....but I have seen snow on the ground in late March.....usually these are a one day wonder though and then melt off.

A few years ago we had 4" of snow drop overnight on March 20th IIRC and by mid afternoon on the 21st it was all but gone.

February can dish out some some pretty nasty weather though.......

Glad we got that load of shells last Saturday......Still thinking about another run in March if we can do it......So far we have emptied out 4 barrels from that haul (Only 2 have been used)....and all the "Ready to burn" barrels in the basement are full as of yesterday.....

Once we get into March we should start seeing more days that we can run the little stove rather than the big one......

This winter has seen mostly the Big Whitfield shouldering the load...with occasional help from the little Prodigy 2

With talk of Teens F at night we may see a few nights with both stoves running before we are through this......

    Fun stuff.....

Do you remember the Lowe's sale for $199/ton? It's $269 here, the Lowe's is ~100 miles. Weird delivery is less from there than paying someone to bring me some from town here:confused:

Oh, and PS, they only come here once every other week, so disregard the delivery date LOL

Local delivery is also expensive here WW - around the $100 range, give or take. (Just FYI.) ... Have read good things on the interwebs about the midwestern hardwood GS, (vs. the NEWP branded ones in our area) so keeping a good thought those pellets will burn well for you.

All I can say is, I'm glad I can haul my own. I can put 10 skids on the Gooseneck if necessary and 2 in the bed of the truck which is How I usually haul them.

from an actual pellet warehouse I pay $70ish for delivery for four tons. I’m about about 40-50 miles from them.

No, I have a fork lift with all terrain tires plus skid forks for the tractors (SSQA). Forklift is good for 10K. pallet forks are good for 3K.

Most times I don't bother unloading the pallets, just back the gooseneck in the barn and dolly it down and let it sit.

I'm always moving skids of fertilizer and stuff around anyway. Part of farming.

That's an excellent price Earl. For our smaller dealer in Keene, which does not have a 'formal or regular' delivery vehicle / driver / infrastructure, I was quoted $100 for tonnage delivery the last time I inquired. We're local enough & in town so often, they have no problem holding prepaid product and allowing us to pickup 10-15 bags per day to move the product out over several days. ... Which is always most appreciated by us. :handshake:

Edit: Glad to read the new stove is 'dialed-in' for you. Nice Stove!

Said in another thread (maybe not on here) but the mangaer at our local TSC asked me if I was interested in delivering pallets of pellets for them. Told her no because with my luck, the customer would have no way to off load them and I'd be stuck helping them unload a ton of plastic bags and I'm 71 and lumping bags of pellets isn't in my job description... and I'd considered buying full trailer loads of pellets direct from the exturder. I have the inside storage space for at least 100 ton of bagged pellets. Problem is the same. If I sold pellets, I'd get stuck fingerprinting them into customers trunks, or back seats, or whenever and I don't have any desire to do that.

Like the off grade no germ seed corn I roast. I either get it on full 2500 pound skids, shrink wrapped or I get it in 2500 to 3000 pound supersacks and 99% of the people who burn pellets or con for that matter don't have the equipment to handle that kind of gross weight. I do.

If I sold pellets, I'd have no issue loading full pallets of them in the back of a customers pick up truck. problem with that is, most wannabe pickup trucks today cannot handle a ton of dead weight, especially rearward of the back axle, let alone multiple pallets. I can set a full pallet of pellets on the back end of my F350 Ford and it don't even drop the backend to the helper springs. I can unload a semi trailer from the side or the rear. I have a raised ramp loading-unloading dock as well. They are a lot less by the full truckload versus buying them retail because the retailer marks them up. If they didn't, they would soon be out of business.

A full semi load is usually 22 pallets.

The place I use has strict rules they follow. They place the pallets on a flat surface that’s reasonable. Has to be paved, etc. they don’t stack any loose bags.

if you don’t have a place prepped they drop it in your driveway. They put these in the agreement you sign. They’ve told me some wild stories. People try to get away with crazy chit.

My guess those are what they consider comparable the Green Teams (a hardwood) which are around $7/bag here. Deliver for 30 miles a couple of years ago was $85 - guessing more around the $100 mark (or more) now - as CleanFire stated

I pay just under half that for 1/3 acre and a small chit house in a small chit town. $10k is nothing.

A small chit house with a small chit garage on 1.3 acres in CT will set you back about 1/2 of 10K. No city water or sewer just the shack.

Luckily I'm out in faam country. I can :fart: and no one hears it or cares!! :D

I see that some members think that "......Lets just say under 10 grand a years but not much under." is a lot for their own farm, plus rental units, etc., etc.
When I sold the big log house in SE NY back in 2014, I was paying almost 12K/yr.....and that was on only 2/3 of an acre.
Now you know why I sold it. I was working just to pay the taxes of $1000/mo. Ridiculous. My taxes here in NC are $1100/yr.
